My summer holiday is well planned out. Spending one month at a fancy guest house with my five cousins to prepare for Aunt Medrine's wedding.
The unexpected happens when Aunt Medrine tells us that we are spending the month with her fiancé's two nephe...
Days are running. Really fast. I hadn't noticed before but now I do. It's like we just got here but we have less than two weeks to the wedding.
That should be a good thing but with the thought of this amazing vacation ending, it doesn't sound so good.
It's reminds me that there is still a slight chance that I will move to Africa. That there is still a chance that I won't see my cousins in at least a year.
That I may never see Col again.
Claps and cheers and groans that fill the room remind me to stop worrying and enjoy today. This moment.
I get out of my head and witness Nova and Trent fist bump. Looks like their team scored. Again.
It is 1am in the morning and we are all in Trent's and Col's room, watching a basketball game.
Trent and Nova are supporting the same team, which is new because honestly, 99% of the time, they are at each other's throats but now that they are on the same team, they are at our throats because the rest of us are supporting the other team.
"Hey loser." Nova turns to me." Tell your fellow loser over there to pass me that bottle of water on the night stand." She points at Blake who is sitting next to me on Trent's bed.
Each one of us, other that Trent, glares at her but she smiles in return.
"Our team is about to score again." Trent declares, seizing Nova's attention and exactly as predicted, they score again.
Honestly, the rest of us a dieing of boredom and since we agreed to a no phones policy, we just have to seat and watch our team lose.
The buzzer sounds marking the end of the third quarter, and our team is down by eighteen. EIGHTEEN. No room for redemption.
"I am bored." Marissa yawns." I don't like basketball."
"No, you are bored because your team is losing."Trent assures her and Nova sniggers.
Everyone breaks into a conversation, the twins going downstairs to pick something.
By the time the last quarter ends, Nova and Trent were basically on their feet jubilating and Marissa is sound asleep, her head on my laps. The twins and Blake bid us all goodnight and leave for their room.
"Marissa get up." I try to wake her up." The game is done." She doesn't move an inch. Like a sleeping statue. I shove her a little bit harder but she doesn't move at all. My heart skips a bit. What if she is..
I bend down to listen for her breathing as Col checks her pulse. Trent suddenly cracks up.
"She's fine. That's just the way she sleeps." Trent utters.
"When she sleeps, her entire system shuts down. So you are wasting your time if you are trying to wake her up. Just leave her here. She can sleep with me." Trent adds, walking over to cover Marissa with a blanket.
"Come on you loser. Let's go to sleep." Nova yawns as she reaches for my hand.
"Take that back." I glare, my hands on my hips.
"Fine." Nova rolls her eyes." Come on you beautiful loser."
Trent and Col laugh at that as I push Nova out of the door.
"Goodnight Trent." I call out to him and he sends me a flying kiss.
"Goodnight Col." I intend that to come out just as plainly as my goodnight to Trent did but it doesn't. I whisper his name instead.
Col meets my eyes and our gazes lock. I swallow but I don't look away. I don't know how long that lasts but Trent clears his throat. He looks from me to Col and then back to me.
Oh boy!
Avoiding any of Trent's questions, I quickly leave and close the door behind me.
Nova and I brush our teeth, change our clothes and climb into our beds.
"What was that back there?" Nova turns on her side to face me, her head on her pillow.
I know exactly where this is heading but I still innocently ask. "What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean." She throws her pillow at me and I chuckle. "Is there something between you and Col?"
"No." I object. A little too fast and she sees right through me.
She raises her eye brows at me." I would believe that if I didn't notice the way he looks at you."
I open my mouth to give some silly excuse but she raises her finger and I shut up.
"Or the way you look at him." She adds.
I am speechless. I could deny everything she just said but I would be lying to myself.
"Oh My God. You really like him, don't you?" Nova squeals in delight.
"Shut up, Nova." I throw the pillow back at her though I can't help but smile.
"My brother has had girls before but I haven't seen him look at any of them the way he looks at you. I am starting to think he doesn't just like you."
The thought of that scares me. That these feelings could be beyond liking.
My phone buzzes. A message from Col pops up.
Col: Goodnight
My heart does that somersault it always does when it comes to Col.
"Stop grinning like an idiot." Nova says to me." I know it's him."
I laugh." Goodnight Nova."
"Yeah sure. Dream about him." She pulls her bedcovers over her head.
