Ellie
The house is a mess but none of us is in the mood of rearranging it especially since we are leaving tomorrow.
I sit on the floor of my room as Marissa and Nova help me pick my clothes from the closet and pack them.
The boys are sitting on our beds just staring at us pack. The silence is tormenting. None of us is in a jolly mood right now. I don't know if it's because I am leaving or because we are all realizing that after tomorrow, we will all go back to own individual worlds. Like this one month never happened.
"Col, stop looking at me like they just sentenced me to life imprisonment."I tease him, trying to lighten up the mood a little.
"More like they sentenced me." He comments. I sigh and the room goes quiet again.
"Is this how we are going to spend our last night together? Grumpy? " At this point I'm pissed off. " If this is going to be my last night with you guys then I want it to be something I can remember."
None of them says a thing.
"You know what? If you are going to be like this all night then good luck." I match out of the room and as I head for the living room I realize that I am not pissed at them specifically. Just scared about tomorrow.
After a few minutes, one by one, they all come down stairs and sit in the living room with me.
"Ok. Let's do this." Trent does his best to brighten up all our faces. "Let's make tonight memorable."
"Maybe we can do karaoke again?" Trent hopefully suggests again.
"It sure would be nice to hear your horrible voice one more time. Maybe then I can have some sort of horror story to tell my grandkids when I'm old." Col teases and that is more than enough to get us rolling with laughter.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence." Trent sarcastically appreciates Col.
I look around and the tension from earlier is gone.
"Come on guys. Let's do something memorable." Nova picks up on the enthusiasm.
"Are you going to suggest chess again?" Trent teases her and she throws a cushion at him but he catches it and throws it back at her. It hits her square on her face and we burst into laughter again.
"Why don't we do a time capsule?" Marissa's suggestion gets our attention immediately.
"You know, like in the movies. Record ourselves answering a number of questions and watch the videos some time in the future." Marissa explains.
We go quiet again, ponding on the idea. A time capsule.
"How many years should we take?" Lucas asks.
"Ten." I raise my hand and suggest.
"Everyone fine with ten years?" Marissa asks. Rounds of yes and head nods follow.
"Who will record?" Lucas asks again.
"I'll do it." Nova volunteers.
"I did an online course in videography." Nova assures Trent when he looks like he is about to doubt her. The next thing we decide on are choose the questions.
What is your greatest fear in this moment?
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
What has been your favorite moment of this last month?
What do want to tell your future self? That is what we do. Nova chooses to use the rehearsal space to record our videos. We do it individually. No listening to anyone's predictions.
Nova is the only one who gets to know all of ours.Marissa goes first. Blake next then Logan, Lucas, Trent, Col and I follow. When Nova is done with each of us, she makes takes a video of herself. She promises to hide it safe till the time is due and somehow, we trust her enough to do that.
At two in the morning I wake up from Lucas' bed to use the bathroom. Yes, from Lucas' bed. It's was Lucas' very cheesy suggestion.
We pushed the three beds in Lucas', Logan's and Blake's room together so it could look like one gigantic cozy bed and we all slept in. I told you, very cheesy.
When I come back from the bathroom, instead of going back to my place right between Trent and Marissa, I walk further to the left side where Col is sleeping and I fix myself in the space between him and Nova.
I turn on my side so that we are facing each other. I watch his sleepy face for a minute. His beautiful sleepy face.
I'm going to miss this. I'm going to miss him. I'm going to miss just sitting down and marveling as he makes me laugh. I'm going to miss singing with him, the way we sound together. Having breakfast with him in the morning, staying up late at night with him just talking.
I wipe the tears I hadn't noticed and snuggle with him. I wrap one of arms around to his back and tuck the other between our bodies and close my eyes, letting my head rest on him chest.
After a minute I hear him chuckle over my head. "What are you doing here baby?
I can't find the words for a minute but I have to tell him. Even if it's one sided, am not leaving without telling him.
" I love you Col. I love you." I whisper into his chest. He stiffens but just for a second.
"I love you too, Nellie Claine." He kisses my head.
