After a couple days of being in my sad state, I feel energized and am determined to go to school. The weather has still been warm and sunny, so I think that it helped me get out of my funk.
I go to school on Wednesday wearing some light washed jeans, my white converse and a plain pink t-shirt, unfazed by the fact that I will have to interact with Jonald, Jemantha, and worst of all... Graythan.
First, second and third period go well. Though I'm in the same class as Graythan and Jonald and sit beside or close to them, I manage to avoid any conversation.
At lunch time, I prepared myself enough to interact with the group again, so I sat with them at their table.
"Marybethbethbeth!" Jemantha yelled happily when I sat beside her.
She gave me a tight hug, and I felt like I wanted to tear up. I missed her so much. Though we had only been friends for less than a week, she had done so much for me.
"We're so happy to see you again Marybethbethbeth. We missed you." Jonald said. "I'm really sorry for what our kind did to you and your family."
He seemed sincere.
The last couple of days I had thought about our last conversation in the entryway of my home.
Jonald and Graythan were vampires. My parents were werewolves. The feud between the species was expected, and surely Graythan didn't intend on hurting me by hurting my parents. The attack also happened years ago, so he was younger, influenced by the other vampires. It wasn't entirely his fault, so how could I hate him?
Graythan didn't say anything to me the entire lunch break, and avoided looking at me or acknowledging me. I'll admit- it did hurt. I wanted him to hug me, to kiss me, to tell me he missed me and was happy to see me, but I guess he didn't feel that way.
After school, I started my walk home. The warm weather was perfect to take a walk in, and I needed to get some exercise in.
Half way home, a familiar black BMW pulled over next to me, and Graythan ran out to meet me on the footpath.
"Marybethbethbeth-" he says, catching his breath from his short run to me.
This was it. He was going to tell me he was sorry, that he missed me, that he loved me, that he needed me.
"I am giving you the opportunity to accompany me to a nice fancy restaurant to enjoy a delicious dinner." He said with an awkward smile, like he was nervous and had never done this before. "Would you like to join me?"
A smile slips out of me and I'm unable to hide my happiness.
"Of course I would!" I answer happily.
Graythan's smile widens. My smile widens. We look each other in the eyes, smiling widely on the sidewalk halfway between my home and our highschool for what feels like 2 minutes.
Graythan then holds my hand, and walks me to the passenger side of his car, opening the door for me like a true gentleman.
He starts driving, and after 15 minutes, it's clear to me that we are driving into the city. Graythan doesn't say much the entire ride, and just tells me 'it's a surprise' and that we 'can talk more during dinner'.
I fell asleep during the drive, and when I woke up we were parked on the side of the road. The sky was dark, but the businesses, street lights and people kept it alive.
After opening my door, Graythan leads me to a familiar popular, fancy restaurant called 'Pistachios'.
It was the restaurant that my older brother Nathanon worked at. I wasn't sure if Graythan knew that or not, but my family and I had definitely come here a couple times in the past.
