Prologue

Nessie's POV
For the past 18 years I've grown up hearing the story of how my parents met.

My mother told me all about how fate decided that she was born to be a vampire and fall in love and marry my father. She told me about how it was her destiny. Recently she's been going on about my destiny and what fate has in store for me.

You see when I was a baby a werewolf named Jacob Black imprinted on me. Imprinting is how werewolves find their soulmates, but said soulmates aren't always romantic or in the lovers sense. My whole life Jacob has been nothing more then a big brother to me, and I never saw him as anything more.

Now my mom has started talking about when Jake and I are going to get together. She just goes on and on about my relationship with him and she's started making a wedding scrapbook for me. She's even gotten her wedding dress resized to fit my body!

I just can't take it anymore!

I applied for a few colleges and got accepted to the University of Cambridge in England and I'm leaving tonight. I got my hair cut, I packed my bags, and got new paperwork for myself. A new social security card and number, new ID, new driver's license, new birth certificate, and a new name; Vanessa Swan. I went with my mom's maiden name because she wouldn't guess that if she bothered to look for me she'd guess that I'd use my real last name or Aunt Rose's last name, maybe she'd guess dad's former last name, but she'd never guess hers. She hates her human life and anything that reminds her of her human life so she won't bother with it.

I withdrew my entire bank account and closed it before leaving Forks, Washington. For good.

I don't want to start high school all over again and again for eternity. I want to go to college just once, make friends, make a few mistakes, and fall in love. Naturally. Without interference or being told what to do.

I snuck away while my family was out hunting. I grabbed my suitcases and sped to the airport. Once on the plane I relaxed and jammed my air pods in and took a nap.

I woke up eight hours and seven minutes later with a yawn and stretched. I asked the flight attendant for a muffin and a bottle of water.

After I finished eating my snack, I pulled out my copy of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. I read it for the remaining eight hours and eight minutes, until the plane landed. I then got off and exited the plane with the other passengers. I walked over to baggage claim and grabbed my suitcases before leaving the airport and hailing a cab.

I first stopped at the bank and opened an account in my new name. After I got all that settled, I exited the bank and hailed another cab and went to my new school. When we got there the cab driver helped me with my luggage, then drove away leaving me to stare at my new school in awe.
