While the sirens continued alarming throughout the base, Wang Yi's fingers tightened around the rifle, ignoring the soldier following suit from behind, doing his best to keep up with the commander's maddening strides as Yi stomped through the corridors. The worn soles of his boots clunked against the wooden floorboards from inside the barrack — his thoughts wandered; he wanted nothing more than to put a bullet between Xiao Fang's eyes for betraying his trust.

Earlier, while he lay in bed, rummaging through the pages littered with cartoonish scribbles and words, scratched out and several god-awful attempts at drawing — what looked to be Yi himself? — he wasn't too sure — from the notebook he gave to Xiao Fang in the earlier days the doctor spent aiding him back to health before the siren was turned on. Initially, he thought it must have been an attack. However, it wasn't until a split second later that a soldier came banging on his dorm room, shouting that the prisoners had escaped, killing Bai Lu and injuring another.

At first, he could not comprehend that Xiao Fang would be brave enough to do such a thing. However, as he strapped on his uniform, he understood Xiao Fang wasn't a coward but a man with a strong will. A man who cried bitter tears the day before yesterday because he feared that his comrades would die at Yi's hands — a man who must have felt he had no other option than to run. A fucking foolish, foolish man.

Then again, who was to tell the doctor did not plan to escape long before? Who was to say if Xiao Fang only befriended him to gain his trust so he would let his guard down? Who was to tell if all of Xiao Fang's actions weren't some pretend scheme to make him believe they were brothers?

Yi should have known better. His father taught him better — he lived around enough con-men to know better!

No matter.

Xiao Fang would pay; he would pay dearly.

"Soldiers, listen up!" Yi shoutd in the open the minute he stepped outside, watching the soldiers scattering, running off in different directions to search the base. Immediately, the soldiers halted, facing Yi. "When you find the prisoners, bring them back alive — I want all of them alive; do I make myself clear?!"

"Yes, Commander Wang!" the soldiers stood at attention.

"Pass on the orders!" Yi ordered before the soldiers proceeded to search.

"Commander," Wen Han approached, wielding a pistol revolver. "We combed the field; there's nothing there. The soldiers are still searching —"

"Commander Wang — the prisoners are spotted in the west wing, scaling the fence!"

Yi's jaw tightened. Without another word, he raced alongside several armed soldiers, knowing exactly where Xiao Fang carried his comrades.

Yi halted in his steps the moment he caught sight of Xiao Fang, standing alone with a rifle pointing at the soldiers flocking around him. There was no one else with him — the rest of the prisoners must have already scaled the fence. "Search the forest. Make sure you bring them back alive," he ordered the soldiers from behind, not taking his eyes off Xiao Fang.

"What if they're armed?" Zichen stepped forth.

"Then kill them," Yi said before turning his attention back to Xiao Fang.

"Yes, Commander Yi." Zichen saluted before leaving alongside the others with a devilish smile.

Xiao Fang must've not noticed Yi because his eyes were staring in absolute terror at the ends of the guns the soldiers pointed at him.

"Drop your weapon!" Yi ordered, pushing past the soldiers so he could face Xiao Fang; his rifle pointing toward the medic's soldier despite making no attempts to shoot. "Xiao Fang, you stupid man — you never listen."
