Necessities like clothes and food were scattered around the area. Winston picked up a spare water bottle, dusting the spider webs off of it. Nailea had a bad feeling about this place. All of these things were seen as luxuries in the scorch, people killed for it.

So why was it all abandoned?

Nailea's expression contorted into a grimace when a nostalgic smell hit her nose. It reeked of corpses, but something told her it wasn't exactly dead.

"There might be cranks hiding in here, be on the lookout." Nailea warned. They exchanged worried glances, not exactly in a hurry to encounter any more cranks.

“Remind me again, why should we trust you?” Newt spoke mockingly. “From what happened back there, seems like you haven't been completely honest with us.” Silence.

“Escaped? A brother? What was he on about? What else aren't you telling us?” Newt continued. Nailea scoffed with the roll of her eyes. “Well for one, we've just met. Am I obligated to share all of my life details with you guys? And second, why in the world would you listen to a man who kidnapped us?”

“She kinda has a point.” Minho muttered quietly to Newt. "Doesn't matter. The bottom line is, you aren't trustable." He concluded, pointing a finger at Nailea.

"Idiot." She mumbled under her breath, searching other parts of the room for other items that might be useful. The silence grew louder as everyone minded their own businesses.

Footsteps approached from behind the blonde girl, causing her to tense up — as if bracing herself.

"Hey." A soft voice from behind her spoke.

Winston.

"Hey." She replied.

The boy awkwardly shifted on the balls of his feet. "I just wanted you to know, I trust you. I don't expect you to tell us everything." He said as he went through a pile of junk.

"Thanks." She didn't quite know what to say, but she was grateful that someone other than Aris was on her side.

Nailea walked closely behind Minho and Thomas. They had decided to split into groups and search the different floors of the fallen building.

She watched as Minho went up to what seemed to be an electronic box, wires tangled into bunches. "Minho, don't do anything stupid." Nailea reminded. If he wasn't careful, he could electrocute himself.

Like an unaware child, he continued playing around with the switches.

A loud creaking echoed around the room, they grimaced at the loud noise. After a few moments of silence, the lights flickered on.

Minho looked proud of himself, Thomas remained confused while Nailea's face displayed full horror. "Shit." She mumbled. If there were cranks, they definitely knew they had visitors.

Minho's face held a grin until he glanced behind Thomas.

"THOMAS WATCH OUT!"

A crank jumped out of the darkness, the only thing keeping it a distance from Thomas was a wired fence. The —all too familiar— screeches filled the air. They're awake.

Another crank rose from the shadows, charging at Minho. He acted quickly, taking a metal pipe and swinging it at the crank's face. "What the hell is that thing!" Minho yelled while backing Thomas and Nailea away from the zombie-looking creature.
