Syn
Syn you better be awake and dressed in 15 minutes. I warned you yesterday who was coming" My dad seethed through the door.
    "I'm coming!" I replied sweetly
"I expect better from you Alpha Syn. You are 22 years old, and still a child" He grumbled walking away from the door.
I jumped out of bed and rushed to get ready. Bane would find it disrespectful if I was late to see him again. He better get used to me being late if he wants to marry me.
My wolf growled at the thought "I will not spend the rest of my life with that cocky alpha male. I refuse. I will kill us both" she put her wall up not waiting for my reply.
Moody wolf, it's not like we really have a choice now. We had till 21 to find our mate and at this point it's safe to assume he's dead. Bane being the alpha of South America meant more land for my people, and more resources. It was going to be strictly business in my eyes. Bane's mind was elsewhere when it came to why we were getting married.
I walked down stairs and into the kitchen, famished from missing dinner last night. Pack meetings are no joke when mates are going missing randomly and having no leads. I need just one crumb of a lead, but whoever they were, they were smart and stealthy. Which furthered the need to marry Bane, he had the best tracker in the world in his pack.
"Hey Syn, will you come with me later? I want to gather herbs for Alice from the woods today but you know who won't allow me to go alone" Clara said with annoyance looking at her mate and my gamma Ryder.
He shrugged and walked into the office before I reminded him that she was the best at weaponry usage.
"Of course, Davina would love to get out for once and run. We haven't been able to in awhile especially not that part of the territory" I beamed at her, silently thanking her
"Ah yay! I know, I may be human but he forgets that I don't miss my targets ever" she spoke just loud enough for him to hear.
I laughed as I watched her toss her black hair over her shoulder and roll her eyes going into the herbal room to help my step mom.
I ate my breakfast in peace, waiting to hear Bane and his men's paws hit the property line. Today we needed to actually start the wedding plans, I had been refusing for months.
"Hello Princess" My dad cooed "I'm happy you're here on time."
    "Better late than-" I started
"Do not finish that sentence" He warned
I rolled my eyes and went into the office to finish up some reports. With humans wiped out for the most part I don't understand why we still do this, it's never ending. They aren't in control anymore, so they can't threaten our safety if we make a small mistake.
A few hours later Bane arrived, Davina growled and threatened to end us both again, which was amusing to say the least. At least Atlas would be a good alpha with us gone.
My beta was my right hand in a sense, though he was more level headed than I would ever be. Amoura was lucky to have him, he was tall, muscular, and had perfectly messy blonde hair and blue eyes. The she-wolves of the pack all drooled over him, but to me he was a brother. Plus he was a natural born leader, and sometimes overly protective.
None of the leaders under me, especially Atlas, approved of me marrying Bane. They said that it was unnatural for our kind to be wedded, which is true. The only time we marry is if our mate is human and they asked for it, or we are going to be with someone other than our true mate. Valentina being the spitfire she is was the only one to ever speak out about how they all felt, for only being my delta female she had the strength and courage of a beta male.
That was six months ago, and my father essentially told them we had no choice, even with Atlas as our best tracker we needed Bane to help us and he needed us to help him. It was a business move, his human side shining through his thick fur.
I was lost in thought when the man of the hour walked into the office and disturbed my peace.
"Be nice" my dad's voice boomed in my head. Davina growled in response.
"So how do you feel about this? Honestly?" Bane asked me, why does he care?
"I don't know, we both may have mates out there. I don't want to lose the chance of meeting my other half" I replied feeling dejected
"I know, but it may not be as bad as you might think, I happen to think I could make a good choice mate." He said cockily
"Keep that up and I will let Davina rip your throat out" I retorted
"Hey I may like that" He teased, testing my already thin patience for the subject
I stormed out of the office annoyed with him, my father, and everyone else who wanted this marriage. Now normally I knew what my dad said was best, since I'm still a young alpha he has a lot of influence on what I decide to do.
He knew of the time before the uprising, and often talked about how the humans had it coming, starting to crack down on the vampires and witches. Personally I don't trust either but they did make the world safe for our kind. He always said if they would have left us alone they would still have the luxuries we do, but they didn't listen to the warnings.
Most humans, if not captured, lived in solitude and in hiding. Atlas and I called them the survivalists, hunting for food and without running water. Sometimes if they were lucky they would find an abandoned home and set up there but they were always on the move.
The mysticals were the ones who had safeguarded homes with running water and electricity. Some of my wolves had human mates that they ran into during missions, a change I made was to let them become a part of our pack. My father would never have allowed this, but my wolves deserve to be happy.
I went into the library to escape the wedding planning a little longer, it would happen in three months on the night of the blood moon. I still needed to find a dress, but if I can keep pushing it off maybe I won't have to.
"I think he just wants you to get married so you calm down" Valentina came out from behind a shelf, "Tough luck though, you'd never lose yourself because of a guy. You didn't when you became alpha."
"You're probably right, it's just not fair. I know well enough that we could do a blood treaty, agreeing to be allies and our people both will be peaceful. It was the original plan if I would have found my mate before I turned 22" I whined, "It could still work, even with me as alpha now"
"I'm not speaking with you about it. You know my reasonings for it" he growled at me warning me not to push the issue.
It always comes down to the only way for our kind to share land and resources is if the two alphas choose each other as mates or we do a blood treaty. It's a sacred bond between two wolves, especially alphas when one is done. It's a promise to our higher beings that we swear to protect and serve each other.
I somehow got dragged into the wedding preparations and had to spend the whole afternoon with Bane. To my dismay we agreed on a lot of decorations, flowers, and food options. We actually got along and Davina didn't threaten his existence.
"Heyyyy Syn" Ryder popped into my head "wanna hear a joke?"
"I'm looking at cakes, what do you want?" I sent back
"Is Bane the bane of your existence yet?" He laughed before shutting the link
I couldn't help but laugh, he always has something smart to say. Even in the most important of meetings. I think that's what makes him the best negotiator even though even he could not save me from the "bane of my existence"
By the time we were finished it was almost evening, Clara was disappointed but I promised her once Bane left tomorrow we would go. I had a rule that no one other than the warriors could be out past twilight, with everyone who had gone missing I needed to protect those who were left. She happily agreed, wanting him to leave as soon as possible.
"I appreciate you both going for me, I would but you know how Ev can be" Alice laughed making fun of my dad.
"You're very welcome, trust me I've been there. I'm just glad he has you to protect now." I teased
"Oh he wasn't that bad!" she threw back at me "He just loves you!"
"He loves me but yet wants me to be with someone other than my mate. No offense" I retorted, my mood starting to sour.
"Oh honey I know. He thinks he's doing what's best. However he doesn't realize what he could be taking from you" She spoke softly pulling me into a hug "Now red eyes go to sleep, you have an adventure to go on tomorrow"
I shook my head at her nickname for me and flashed her my blood red eyes, Davina loved showing them off.
I avoided Bane and my father on the way up to my room, I had no energy to fight or pretend to be happy in this situation. I just needed to keep telling myself that it was for the best. Especially if it gives me a chance to find out who's taking my people.
The next morning was filled with goodbyes and more talk about when Bane would be back. I had another month of freedom and then he would stay for 3 weeks so we could work on the wedding and pack initiation night.
Clara and I slipped out by late afternoon. Davina came forward with much excitement, we had not been back to this part of the forest since we were 17. Clara hopped on us with her baskets in tow and we sprinted off.
Now normally she-wolves must be with a male to get this far, but I was the exception. Davina easily tore through rogue wolves without batting an eye. Her size alone was enough to ensure Clara's safety.
Clara was one of the only humans left at the palace, her safety was everyone's priority. She never knew her parents but has a half brother part wolf. He left years ago to try and find his mate but has had no such luck. Halflings having a mate is a rarity, he's lucky that he even has a wolf.
"Don't tell the gamma but I like riding you better" She told Davina while climbing off to gather what she needed.
Davina sat close, scanning the woods for potential threats. Eventually she became hungry and decided to hunt. She kept missing her target, feeling on edge. She knew this part of the forest was safe, but something smelled off about the area and we couldn't figure out what.
    "You okay?" Clara asked
Davina nodded her wolfy head but sniffed the air again.
"Vina, I'm human. I can't smell that good" She sighed gathering more herbs "Are we safe? Do we need to go?"
I shook my head and shifted back into my human form so I could tell her.
"It's safe, we just smell something different. Like vanilla and coffee I think" I smiled at her to ease her nerves "I'll come back to investigate later on. I need to ensure your safety"
She nodded and Davina happily waited for her friend to be done.
"We'll come back later, somethings here I can feel it. Plus we should look for our friends" Davina said and I agreed.
