Syn
I spent the next few hours with Onyx, trying to get to know him more, and to see if I could pull any information about Ash out of him. So far he didn't feel comfortable talking about her. Even if the feelings for her were caused by one of her spells, I know breakups can hurt.
He didn't really seem to know much either, other than she came to him after his pa was taken and has helped him ever since. His pa was another hard subject, he was his only parental figure. Losing a parent is never easy, that I know. He seemed relieved to know someone understood how he felt. Though he did not know if he was still alive or dead, or who took him and why.
After I cooked him dinner I reluctantly left him with Ezra and Ryder for "bonding time" so I could talk to my father about breaking off my engagement. I have my mate and Bane would never be him.
"I know what you are going to say. We need to talk to Bane soon, but we need to talk about Onyx now. I don't want anyone in the pack knowing who he is just yet. I convinced Jucko he was a lost nomad and I knew his family so he came seeking shelter. It's for his safety." For an alpha my father can surely ramble when he's flustered.
"Okay I'll bite. Why?" I needed to know the reasoning before I agreed.
"With our members going missing, his ties with the witches. It may not look good for you to let everyone know just yet. Our people may not trust him, or accept them as their lead male." He paused before continuing trying to gauge my reaction "Plus it'll be for his own safety. If everyone knows who he is, he'll be a huge target. On top of that, his grandfather was a key piece in the uprising. A spy for our side."
"What do you mean a spy?" I asked, shocked
"He was a government official, in charge of supernatural affairs. From my records he hated how we were treated. He knew we should be feared and respected but no one listened to him. He knew the way things were being handled would lead to something like the uprising would happen. Going through our new found records, he worked for our pack and some others that were innocent in the cause of the uprising." My father shook his head.
"Why does he know so little of us then? And why does he not trust us?" I needed answers, nothing made sense.
"For his protection. If he didn't get involved with us and feared us it was for the better. If he thought we were protecting us it would be more likely that he would trust other supernaturals who aren't as nice as we are. It's odd though, I don't understand why I did not see the files before. It was like they were hidden and when Alice broke the spells it all came back once he came here." he spoke with disappointment "I don't understand. I didn't remember him or his grandpa till he came here."
"Did you tell Alice?" She needed to know, as soon as possible.
"I have made her aware. She's looking into it, but we need to keep him safe now. She has a lead, but for now we need to be careful" Careful was not my middle name and he knew that.
"What are we going to tell Bane?" I asked him
"We cannot tell him anything now, other than that you have met your mate. No one knows who it could be, so he cannot come here and raise hell. You got lucky, the wedding is off. I don't think we will need their help now" He smiled at me, and I sighed with relief. Though Bane could be an issue once he finds out.
"Do the others know about you just now seeing the files?" I asked because earlier it did not seem like it.
"No they do not. It needed to be said, alpha to alpha. Only me, you, and Alice know at this point.  I apologize for any confusion. We had found them and that's why we brought up very little, to calm them all down. And so they don't kill the boy." He looked concerned, he claimed to know every single file we had.
"It's not your fault. Thank you for telling me" I walked up and gave him a hug, it couldn't have been easy to admit this.
"I see your brain going a million miles a minute. I'll take care of it sweetheart" he praised me "you're becoming a very strong alpha. I can't wait to see how much you grow"
I walked out of my office and walked into the main room to see my beta, gamma, and delta all there trying to teach my mate how to play this video game. He was failing miserably and they were having the time of their lives with him struggling.
"Ahem" that got their attention real quick
All but Onyx dropped their controllers and looked up at me waiting to see what came out of my mouth next. Onyx then stood up and started cheering, still not realizing I was standing there.
"I won! I won! I wo- Oh! Hi Syn" He stopped cheering and gave me a huge goofy smile. His black hair was completely disheveled and happiness was clearly in his gray eyes.
"Hello mate" I smiled back at him walking towards the couch "You all can breathe now, I'm not gonna kill you"
"Yeah you might not, Davina is a different story" Ryder teased
"Look it's not my fault, she knows her strength" I shrugged
I used to be embarrassed about our size and our strength. She wolves are very powerful, and even work as warriors here. They train just as hard if not harder than our male warriors. However Davina's size put a larger target on our backs, most males felt inferior compared to us as we still tower over them. I really hope Onyx never feels that way.
I left the boys to play their games and decided to find Clara to see what she was up to. Lucky for me she was in the weapons arena. I watched her grab one of the hand guns and hit every target. I smiled at her, she had come a long way from the puny human she was when she arrived here. Her confidence was radiant at this point and I was proud.
"Hey Syn, do you wanna spar?" She noticed my watching her shoot
"You know I do, you're the only worthy opponent around her" I teased
"Better watch out, the boys might challenge you again" She laughed, they sure thought they had me the last time.
    "Let's go" I smirked
Onyx
The boys seemed to like me a bit better and they seemed pretty cool. Ezra was the only one a bit more standoffish when it came to me. I'm assuming it was because I stabbed the alpha. He had the right to be so upset, with the short time of being here I picked up that she was the pinnacle of the pack.
"Your mate is fighting mine in the arena right now" Ryder smirked at me "Wanna go watch?"
    "Um sure?" I replied
"Oh good they are honestly so fun to watch. Syn has more strength, being a werewolf or shifter as you call us, but Clara gives her a run for her money" Atlas stood up and walked towards this hallway.
I followed them till we reached a large black door with "Weapons arena" written across it. Ezra opened the door and exposed the large gym with 3 large walls of weapons around it, a boxing ring that was black and red, punching bags, weight sets, and a large open area where Syn and the girl named Clara were clearly beginning another round of sparring.
I gapped at all the weapons they had covering the walls. Anything from literal swords to any kind of gun you could imagine. Each wall was encased behind a glass frame that seemed to only open with a scan machine I was sure.
The amount of ammo alone covered its own wall, there was a vault where I was sure they had more weapons. I was curious to see what was ruled dangerous enough to be behind that door, considering everything else that was on display.
We walked up to the edge of the mat and they didn't even notice us watching them. Atlas had a face of stone watching his alpha, and watched for any mistakes they made. I tore my eyes away from the strategically placed weapons and placed them on my mate.
Syn had Clara pinned to the ground and stood up to see all four of us standing there clapping. They were right, watching them was highly entertaining. They both had a vast level of skills that I wasn't expecting it to be that intense, especially with Clara being a human like me. I knew I was skilled because I had to be to protect myself but she was just so confident in her strikes against my mate. Mate? Weird.
I still wasn't sure what that meant honestly. She also said that she wanted this to go slow so I wasn't sure how fast these things go? What does it mean for us? I mean I feel bonded to her in a way I never did to Ash. The jealous feelings I got when she touched another male, I needed to ask her still.
They grabbed their waters and laid back on the ground panting drenched in sweat. Syn looked absolutely gorgeous even like this, I hoped she knew that.
"That looked good girls, Syn you need to look at sharpening your hits. Clara, your blocks could be a bit stronger, that's why you kept being pushed back." Ezra stepped up to them and looked down.
"You both need to get better at being quick on your feet, I know this wasn't a serious training session but with everything going on you both need to be serious about this." Ryder went to help his mate stand but she refused to get off the mat.
"Got it. But this here is cold, and I'm comfortable" Clara groaned
"I'm gonna just take a nap right here. You all take over the pack, I'll be incompassitated for the next four hours" Syn whined stretching and curling up into a ball.
Atlas shook his head at their childish actions and walked out of the arena laughing.
"Nope, you have thirty minutes to get it together and meet me in the office" He called to her, earning a growl from Syn.
"Fine but I need to shower first" she gripped standing up off the floor.
She smiled at me and walked past and headed to her own room. Clara was carried out by Ryder and demanded a nap. Ezra walked off to get food and I followed to see if I could find something to do other than follow Syn around. That's when Alice cornered me.
"Oh, just the human I was looking for!" her bracelets jangled and her eccentric personality was on full display
"Me?" I cocked my head at her
"Yes you! I have some questions about your grandpa" She smiled at me "do you know if he knew of any witches?"
"I don't know. Why?" I was getting more curious
"You had Ash's coven's magic around you, but you also had my covens as well. I just found it odd why you would have both the wolves and witches' protection." Wolves protection?
"What do you mean?" I had no idea what she meant.
"Your grandfather asked for the wolves' protection for his bloodline. There's a blood treaty involved, but you also have one of my covens' protection spells around you. It just seems a bit like overkill" She admitted
"All I know is someone came to see us 3 days before he was taken and took a lock of hair and one of my fingernails. She didn't do much else other than sit outside all night during a full moon and the next day she was gone. I haven't seen her since then, and I didn't get a good look at her." This topic was hard to speak on. "But she also did something with the wolves, Tera is nearing the age where she still be slowing down, and the pups haven't changed at all since they turned 2"
"Oh yes! About that, they're linked to you" She seemed to approve of her findings.
"What does that mean?" None of this made sense and it was too much.
"They'll live as long as you do, their souls are linked to yours. If you are alive in this realm, they'll be here with you. If you leave and go into the spiritual realm, their souls will follow yours." She clapped her hands and pulled me into her office space deeper.
It was covered in purple velvet and was just light enough you could see where you're going. There were different signs and symbols scattered around the room, with crystals and different specimens throughout. The tealights showed a little bit less as we got deeper into the room. Her little trinkets all over really made it hers. It's what you would expect for a magical woman's room. It fit her and her personality.
She pulled me to a table and sat me down opposite to her, and clapped her hands again. Why does she do that?
"Okay so some things Syn will have to tell you. But! Do you have any idea as to why files on you would suddenly disappear once the barrier was taken down?" She asked, still smiling.
"I didn't even know that happened? Is it something to do with Ash?" I am majorly confused now.
"I'm not sure, it could be because of a witch from my coven as well. I just wanted to know if you had her erase your and your families files here in a sense." She started to look more and more confused.
"She can do that? Why?" I pushed more, no one is giving me answers dammit.
"I think so, the why part is what I'm trying to figure out" she nodded to herself "Have you ever seen a shifter as you call them before you met Syn?"
I shook my head no, only in pictures.
"Hm. Well it's a good thing she didn't cover your scent properly then. You would have never found Syn if not. It would have made you smell off to her like it did to the others." She smiled at me, Syn was very special here.
"I know. I wanted to tell you, before Ash left she said that her family sees no point in loyalty. I don't really know what that means" I admitted to her
"Oh, that makes sense. I think that they were the ones to erase the files and scent from everyone's mind then. They're foolish for that, if we would have known you existed then we could have worked out a deal to let them stay here if they were involved with you. It's a shame what's going to happen to them, and so young too" she said the last part in a faint whisper, her heart seemed to break for them.
"Since Ash was hiding my scent, is that why Syn's dad didn't recognize me then?" I cocked my head, trying to piece it together. "Also I don't know if it'll help any but she doesn't have her betrothed to my knowledge. I know a bit about witches because of her, but it could all be wrong."
"Most likely. Thank you for letting us know. I'll let you go, I believe she's looking for you" She gave me a soft smile and sent me on my way. I felt bad for her.

Syn
After what felt like forever Atlas finally let me go find my mate. There's so many edits you can make to keep a pack protected. Another female she-wolf disappeared last night right underneath our noses. No magical alarms went off, so either the witches were smart or it was someone else. All I know is we weren't safe, and Onyx could not know that.
I needed to speak with him about hiding that he was my mate till after we figured out what was going on. Who and why are my people going missing, how are Alice's alarms not going off, and what is the end goal?
I found him exiting Alice's office, good she might have got answers. He may be the key to finding out what is going on around here. He was the most adorable sweet human I had ever laid eyes on. I just wanted to keep him safe.
"Hello Syn" his voice showing he was nervous
"Hello mate" I replied "How was speaking with her?"
"It went well. She's trying to figure out why my files and my pa's were missing and why your dad didn't recognize my scent but you could as my mate. Apparently the magic there wasn't strong enough" he looked confused
"Ah yes. My nose is pretty strong, and it takes a lot to fool an alphas' nose. Why I said I wasn't surprised when she concluded that you were mine and not a pseudo mate" I tried to reassure him
"I've heard, you sure are special here" He smiled at me, his eyes glistening
"I mean, kind of. The packs' fate is in my hands." I beamed at him, I loved my position most of the time. "Although, we need to talk. Do you want to come up to my room?"
"Um sure. I don't have anything else to do" He followed me to the stairs and up to my room.
My heart dropped as I knew I needed to tell him that no one but my immediate family could know who he was to me. I couldn't tell my pack, which is something I always wanted to do. It was a big deal for our kind to find their other half, and in a sense show them off. In my circumstances I couldn't and it hurt me and my wolf.
He sat down on the bed and smiled at me, I bit my tongue and tried to put on a front that what I was going to say didn't bother me.
"Onyx I know you don't really understand my world very much, but I know you realize how important my position is in the pack." I started and my heart sunk deeper.
"I mean it's all confusing, I wanted to apologize for stabbing you. I didn't know it would hurt you that much and emotionally how much it hurt you" his eyes were filled with regret and sorrow.
"It's okay, Davaina is too strong for her own good sometimes. Just know that was your one freebee" I smiled at him, I know he did it out of fear at this point "I need to tell you this though, as much as it hurts no one but my other leaders, and my parents can know we're mates"
"Why not? I thought it was a big deal" he seemed confused
"It's for your safety, you're human. There's some things going on here that I'm not able to discuss with you just yet. Our relationship and introducing you to my pack will have to wait till I figure things out" I watched him trying to analyze his emotions.
"So you don't want anyone to know about me? Is it because you're supposed to get married? I thought you wanted me, that you needed me" his tone was hard and sharp, his eyes angry
"I do! It's for your safety that we keep it private for now. Atlas has told everyone that we have a human visitor that is helping us" I admitted, my people were already beginning to question him being here.
"No you don't. You know what? Go be with whoever that wolf is you're supposed to be married to. He's probably way less of a damsel in distress than I am." He stood up, anger radiating off him and slammed the door behind him.
I couldn't get the image of his gray eyes welling up with tears as he exited the room, maybe he was better off going home and us just protecting him from afar. It'll save him the trouble of having to deal with this mess we supernaturals have caused. Alice could sipher a stronger barrier wall for him, one that only she alone could get through. It would be for the best, for him. For me it would rip my heart to shreds.
The anger he felt about this was because of the mate bond. Even though he does not have a wolf, his soul feels my words as a rejection. Me not telling my pack hurts him even if he doesn't realize why he feels the way that he feels. Confusion mixed with anger and rejection from your mate, is a personal hell.
Davina begged that we go after him, and whined that I had pissed mate off. I cut her off because I was already mad at myself for it. Ever since I found him things have just gotten more and more complicated.
"Syn- there's vampires on the border. They demand to see you" one of my warriors popped into my head.
"We're on our way" I replied back
"Dad, ask Alice to come with me, we have a little meeting on our border" I linked him.
"Ezra?" I linked him trying to see if he knew already.
"I'm on my way to get you all. I have a feeling this isn't going to be a friendly meeting. It never is with any of them" his snarl whirled through my head as I headed for the backyard.
This could either go really well or end up in a blood bath, either way having Alice there with me shows a united front to the blood suckers.
