Shanks called his friend and told him about you, while you desperately tried to stop him from doing so. Even if he convinced him to let you stay there, you would still need to go to work every day. After the red haired ended the call, he finally told you that the town he's talking about isn't too far, and that he can take you to work tomorrow morning with his car, which made you even more uncomfortable. You disagreed on leaving with them, but Shanks' friend has already told him he's waiting for you.

"Don't worry, y/n, you'll spend a night with us there, I know you wanna come, you won't bother us or whatever. And you can come visit us for the winter holidays!"

"Do I have a choice?" you smiled, and both Ace and Shanks cheered up.

After they finished stuffing all the important things is Shanks' car, they could finally call it a day off, and celebrated it with a few bottles of sake. As much as you refused to drink, they convinced you to take a few sips, which were enough to make you a bit dizzy. They laughed at your sensitivity to alcohol and you continued talking, completely forgetting about the threat that these men possessed, and what it meant to society. To your mind, they were just regular people, and you considered them your friends.

After a few more hours, you got a notification from Tashigi, but you were still groggy from the alcohol, so you didn't respond right away. Shanks went to take a quick nap, since you and Ace begged him not to drive drunk, and you both sat in the now empty house, with nothing in but the old furniture. Ace asked you if you need anything, but you refused his offer to drop you home to pick up your clothes.

"I mean, as long as you don't want your hoodie back..." you started.

"But that's yours now." he simply responded, with a little smile.

You sighed and sank deeper into the soft material of the couch. When you closed your eyes, you could feel the whole room spinning with you, so you tried to stay awake, while Ace sat next to you, with a hand on your thigh. You didn't mind it at all, it only made you feel more safe around him. You were debating on whether or not starting the conversation about his past would be a good idea, so you hesitated a bit before speaking. Ace noticed that you struggled to say something.

"What is it?" he asked in a lower voice, not wanting to wake up his friend from the other room.

"I was just thinking..."

"About?"

"You're a very curious man, you know?"

"Not more curious than you." he giggled.

"It's just that... I don't know how to put it. My life has changed so much since I've met you, and I feel like I should take advantage of every second I spend with you because I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to see you again." you tried to give him a moment to think about what you said, but his quick answer surprised you instead.

"You're afraid of me." he numbly said.

"No! Don't get me wrong, I love spending time together, but I'm scared that something might happen to you and we won't be able to do it anymore."

"So you're afraid that I'll get caught." he said, still not making eye contact.

"Something like that..."

"Or is it you're afraid that I might do something to you that would damage our relationship?"

His question caught you off guard. You've never thought about it, and now that he asked this, you were confused on whether to answer or not. But before you could say anything, he continued.
