In December 2021, after performing a few concerts in England, Il Divo announced that the rest of the tour would be cancelled due to illness. The last concert Il Divo performed together was in Bath, on December 6, 2021.
Carlos Marín was admitted to a Manchester hospital after coming down with COVID-19, and on social media the group wished Marín a speedy recovery. He had been intubated and put into a medically induced coma, in hopes of fighting the virus that he had already once contracted the year prior. Marín was vaccinated against COVID-19.

After their last tweet on December 18th, the next day on the 19th, it was announced that Marín had passed away.

Many tributes to the late artist were posted; pictures, videos, stories and more. Il Divo then prompted the hashtag #CarlosMarinForever that has been used over 8,000 times on Instagram alone.

Fans respected the silence of Geraldine Larrosa who was certainly grieving the loss of her future fiancée, but then posted her tear-inducing tribute (see chapter, Geraldine Larrosa).
On December 28th, 2021, Il Divo called fans from around the world to join them in a celebration of Marín's life, livestreamed on YouTube.

Marín's bandmates, Urs Bühler, David Miller and Sébastien Izambard were visibly shaken and emotional, as were his mother and sister.
Marín's death was felt all around the world, impacting friends, family and fans alike.
