Jimin was trying his hardest to pay attention to what his date, Sasha, was saying, but his mind was stuck on the look he'd seen on Ollie's face just before the door to the apartment had closed. She had stood so brave, smiling and encouraging them to have a great night on their date. However, just before the door closed, Jimin swore he'd seen the shine of tears welling in her bottom lashes as her smile fell.
Sasha was everything a great date could be, her long brown hair curled and lush, her big doe eyes shining with attention as she looked his way, and excitement laced in her voice as she chatted animatedly with him and the other couple. She was sweet, funny, intelligent, and admittedly very pretty.
But she wasn't his Ollie.
She didn't have Ollie's raucous laugh, she wasn't stoked about food the way Ollie was. She didn't have the same adorable habit of chewing on the corner of her lip when she listened to others talk, or that little snort that sometimes came out when she giggled.
In all, Sasha was great...just not great for Jimin.
He looked over at Namjoon, noticing the discomfort of the other man every time Natasha laid her hand on his arm or shoulder to laugh at something someone said. He saw how bored Namjoon was, how Natasha hadn't been able to keep up with the man's intelligence or curiosity, and the distinct lack of interest Namjoon held in the evening in general. The girls didn't seem to notice the same things, as they basically held up the conversation alone or between the two of them, and Jimin realized that they had actually done that a lot the entire time they had known them. It was like they always wanted to talk to him or Namjoon, but also that they didn't really listen when the guys did talk. As Sasha finished whatever it was she had been saying, Jimin leaned back in his chair and faked a yawn.
"Sorry," he lied, "I guess I'm more beat after work today than I thought."
Namjoon's eyes lit up, catching on immediately, "We have to work second shift tomorrow, too," he offered with a slight pout of his lips, "It's gonna' be busy."
"I hate to do this," Jimin looked at Sasha with feigned sadness, "But I think we have to cut the night short so I can get some sleep." He pursed his lips, "I'm really sorry."
The girls made noises of protest, but relented at the tired looks the guys gave off to sell their little white lie. It wasn't that they weren't good potential partners, just that they weren't people held interest for either man. Sparing their feelings, the men paid for the dinner and drinks politely before making their way out of the restaurant.
The cab ride home was silent, both angels feeling guilty for lying to end that date, as well as determined to see the girl they'd left behind at home.

"I was hoping she'd be awake," Namjoon spoke quietly, smiling as he watched Ollie snuggle in closer with her pillow, "But I guess this is okay too. I just...wanted to look at her."
"All night," Jimin nodded, "I couldn't stop thinking about her all night." He turned to Namjoon with curious eyes, "Should we tell her that? To show her how this whole trial period isn't working at all?"
Namjoon shook his head, "She's not ready to hear it," his lips pulled into a tight line for a moment before he went on, "She has to come to the realization on her own."
"How will she do that?"
"I don't know," Namjoon shrugged, "I haven't figured that out yet."
"Let's just plan for our date with her on Wednesday," Jimin smiled, "Technically we held up our end of the bargain. Might as well make the most of the rewards."
