Love or Power

"Like this?"
I asked still unsure of the steps to the dance. This week would be our royal feast to say farewell before we left to the End. I'd never been to one of them and apparently there was dancing. Clay laughed.
"No my love your hands would rest on your partner's shoulders. Come here."

His voice was kind but the command still sent a shiver through me. Obediently I made my way toward him. The nickname made me feel uneasy. It felt so right but I knew it was wrong. He gently took my small hands into his and placed them on his shoulders. The height difference made it difficult for me to keep them there.
"Relax Darling. You'll be wearing heels so whoever asks you won't be a problem."
His hand locked onto my waist as he guided me through the steps.

"You know I'll only dance with you."
I replied biting my lip as I concentrated on where to put my feet. His eyes gazed into me and he smirked.
"Falling for me are we?"
He teased before twisting me out and back into his grasp. I rolled my eyes but felt my cheeks heat up.
"Hardly. But the only other options will be pompous middle aged men with grabby hands."
He considered this and then said,
"True."

We danced our way outside into the gardens and around the castle pond. He spun me straight out of his arms and into the denser trees. I quickly hid behind one.
"Playing hide and seek? And here I thought you'd actually grown up."
He echoed. I had to stifle my laughter. It became quiet and I could feel my heart racing.
Where in blaze rods did he go to?

I peeked around the bark. A pair of hands grabbed me and lifted me up.
"Gotcha!"
He laughed as I squealed.
"No fair!"
He put me back down. We made our way back to the lake where we collapsed under a tree.
"We could buy a boat and run away."
"We could hike up and stay in the mountains."
He chuckled.
"And what? Eat goats milk?"
I shrugged and laid down on the bark. Clay placed his head on my lap and drew circles into my thigh gently.

"Y/N I've been thinking."
He started, a serious tone entering his honey like voice.
"I...ever since we've been here I've seen our past. I think I do understand better why you hate me. I just want you to know that once we get back,"
He clenched his jaw as he gazed on the lake's glittering surface,
"You're free to go."

What?
"What? Clay what are you saying?"
My heart was racing. My throat was dry. He looked up at me and smiled warmly.
"I'm saying you're free. Once we reach the present time you are allowed to leave the SMP and be free. I realise what I've done to you, so this is all I can do to help."

Is he serious? He looks serious. Oh my gosh he's letting me go! Oh my gosh.
He lifted himself off my thigh, smiling at my widening eyes.
"I...I don't know what to say. Oh Clay!"
I crashed into him with an embrace.
He's letting me go.
But that means...
"Easy there Darling. There's still the problem that our bond creates."
I could see he was struggling with a solution.

It struck me then that he didn't have to. Because I had already betrayed him.
If I had waited...
I swallowed my overwhelming guilt and blinked the tears away.
"We can sort that out when we get there. Thank you so much."
I whispered into his ear, still clutching onto him.

The man who could never give me the power I sought. The man I had fallen for.
He unwrapped his arms from me and lay his head next to mine. The sun warmed up my body and made me slightly drowsy. The next thing I knew I had fallen asleep.

Narrator POV

George and Sapnap were walking around the gardens. George was trying his best to convince Sapnap to let him have a piggyback.

"Absolutely not you imbecile. We're nineteen. You'd think you'd learn to grow up a bit."
Sapnap said but George was used to his snarky, sarcastic tone.
"Come on Sap. I bet you could hold me and Clay with those muscles. How was your visit with your parents?"
Sapnap clicked his tongue.
"It was...a surprise that's for sure."
"Cheers to that. I haven't seen my mom since the beginning of this year."

The boys turned the path to find two figures under a tree. George tilted his head to the side at the site. They moved closer to the figures until they saw the red hair and light violet hair of the Deathly Duo. The Deathly Daughter had her head on the Deathly Son's shoulder. He had his arm wrapped limply around her waist. They were both fast asleep.

"That's so cute."
George whispered, extatic at the discovery. Sapnap rolled his eyes.
"It's pathetic. Our so called best weapons napping instead of fighting? Please."
George lightly smacked his friend's hand.
"Now now. Even they are human. Besides what's stronger than love?"
Sapnap seemed to consider this as they made their way back to the castle where Clay was studying and Y/N would be training.

They had been in love.
Even still they had grown apart to the point that they walked past one another without so much as a word. Y/N trained with vigour but in silence while Clay basically ignored her. And when the two did speak they only fought. Sapnap came to an answer placing the letter from his dad,Skeppy, down on his desk.
Power. Desire and Power are stronger.
