Screeches filled the air the Enderman howled in agony from the water around us. We kept our heads down and trudged through the man made stream the soldiers in front were creating.

A bellowing roar came from above us.
"Duck!"
Someone in front shouted. The beat of wings came closer and closer. I glanced to Clay who nodded. As everyone ducked we sprinted toward the first obsidian tower and hid.
I can't do this!

"Why must you vile mortals always put your noses where they are not meant to be!"
A feminine voice boomed. I covered my ears in pain from the volume. Clay shook my shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
He hissed, looking around.
What?
"You...didn't hear that?"
He pulled a face.
"I knew you were crazy. No I didn't hear anything but that damned reptile's roar."

What roar?
The dark shadow swept over us, the tower shook as the dragon landed on the top.
"Insolent fools! Do you never know when to live in peace?!"
Again the voice boomed.
I...I can hear her.
Just then I heard her talons scrape against the hard surface above us.

Clay grabbed my hand and quickly moved us behind the second pillar.
"Who said that?"
Her voice demanded.
"Ahhh I see they have a powerful mage."
Her voice sauntered as her scaling body crawled down the pillar. She shrieked, startling more Enderman which circled around the group.

"No, she's not with them. Where are you Mage?"
She growled out. Clay cocked his bow and aimed at the floating crystal on the opposite tower.
"What's happening Darling?"
He let the arrow go and the crystal exploded into a bang. Her thundering steps stopped before a rage full roar erupted from her.
"Just...leave me. Keep hitting those things. I'll keep her...distracted."

"I'm not leaving you in this state-"
I shoved him away from me.
"I'm fine. Just get this done."
He frowned but ran to the next tower.
"My name is Y/N Beloved. I am here to kill you."
I said with my mind.
"A Beloved... ah yes, I have been expecting you for a very long time."
Clinks sounded out and I took a chance to look. The soldiers had shot armour piercing arrows at the dragon. But they had...bounced off her scales.

The dragon looked at them before taking in a breath. NO!
Purple flames gushed out her mouth toward the group. They stumbled behind a tower but two of them were too slow. Their bodies writhed and squirmed as they screamed in pain. They seemed to melt and decay before my eyes. I had turn away as I felt bile coming up.
At least it's not Mom.
"Now then, Y/N Beloved, why is it you seek to kill me? Do you know nothing of your past?"

"My past?"
I tried desperately to fill myself with some magic, anything, to protect myself against her. Another explosion went off and she cried out in anger.
"Pesty vermin. The lot of you. You would kill the very being your grandmother gave her freedom to save?!"
A faint glow thrummed through me, a sweat forming.
"What are talking about?"
I tried to keep myself from falling over. I dizzily aimed an arrow at a crystal. It whizzed but never reached it mark.
Shoot.

The crash of her body shook the ground.
"Of course, of course you are as uneducated as a fly. You have no idea the story of how this came to be do you?"
She hissed, amusement clear in her tone. I cocked an arrow and this time it blew the crystal into shards. Her neck whipped to the tower and she scaled it. She roared in frustration when she didn't find me there.
"Show yourself Beloved! Show yourself to the Mother of your magic."
My veins still glowed but I was losing stamina, and quick.

"A mage was tricked into building a weapon capable of killing dragons. They felt guilty so they brought you here to keep you safe."
I responded. I clutched onto the Dragon Slayer axe. I breathed in before making my way into the centre.
Her long neck turned from the tower she was on to see me. Her purple eyes pierced into me. My magic faltered slightly but I pushed through the pain.
"There you are."
She whipped her body around to land straight in front of me.

White dust cut past me from her wings.
Keep your head held high.
"How pitiful. You have been tainted by their ways child. I can see it."
Her jaw opened as the bright purple flame rose from within her.
I spun the axe in my hand, my heart was racing. Instead of attacking like I expected she whipped past me and fell into the shadows of a tower.
Shoot.

"DEATHLY DUO I FORBID YOU TO FIGHT THAT BEAST! ARE YOU CRAZY?"
Queen Puffy's voice cried out. Luckily an Enderman responded and slashed at her, keeping her occupied. Clay was half way up another tower, his sword in his mouth.
Be careful.
"The mage you speak of..."
Her voice trailed, something moved behind me. I whipped around but saw nothing,
"Was never tricked."
What?

Again something moved.
"She fell in love."
An image flashed through my mind. A girl no older than me screaming in pain.
"She fell in love with an evil heart. One day he asked her what it would take to kill a dragon, he said it was just an educational question."
The girl was talking to a blurred figure.
"And like a fool she thought it would bring them closer. And so she told him."

Corpses of dragons flashed in and out of vision. I stumbled slightly desperately trying to concentrate.
Scraping of her talons came from my right. I twisted to her. Her purple eyes glowing in the dark.
"When she discovered what he had done she turned to me. And with her magic she created this rip in dimensions to hide me."
"You're lying."
I said but the words on the book played through my head.
"I have many regrets falling for you,my love."

Her head curled to the side.
"You dare think I would lie? You are a silly girl."
"I have to kill you, to regain my power. What she did to save you was not me."
A low snort rose from the shadow.
"Foolish child. She never saved me. She preserved me for the descendant she had seen in visions: You."
My knees grew weak, my head was spinning.

Her jaw snapped at me.
Dammit!
I spun to block her huge fangs. The metal clanged against them. My veins glowed as I stood my ground against her unbelievable force. She slipped away before jumping into the air, circling me from the air. I turned slowly in circles, watching her carefully.
"When her love turned her knowledge into the vile weapon you hold, she swore she would make him pay. Once I was hidden she left obvious clues to find the damned fortress."
Clay was scrambling to the top of a tower.

"She let them catch her. She willingly became a slave to that scum...so that one day you would be able to take power. You are her revenge."
She landed in front of me with a thundering crash.
"I will kill you, I don't care what my grandmother wanted. I just want my power."
I swung the axe. She lifted her wing up and blocked it. She snapped her jaws at me but I rolled out of the way.

"I will not die to a little girl with no magic!"
Her voice roared into my mind. I slashed down onto her snout, shattering her scales and ripping her coal skin below.
She shrieked and slammed her talons down next to me. I jerked to the right but the axe got caught under her claw. Flames erupted from her mouth. I desperately yanked on its handle. The heat coming closer and closer.

Exactly then two crystals exploded on either side of her head. An agonising roar came from her and she stumbled away. Her powerful aura faltered slightly.
Clay's shout took my eyes off the beast. His figure was descending quickly to the ground. But my power was failing.
No...no wait!
Pain shuddered through me, still I pushed myself. My magic shot through the frail bond until his eyes glowed.
Instead of smacking the ground he landed safely on his feet.

My vision blurred and I fell onto one knee, clutching the axe handle like a cane.
He ran up to me and pulled me to my feet, wrapping my arm around him to support me.
"Who...shot...the...other...one?"
I heaved. Clay was glaring at Jean in utter rage.
"I don't know. Y/N you can't keep trying to use magic that's not there. You'll kill yourself."
I waved his comment away.
"Keep...doing that. It's making...her...weaker."
Clay turned my face to his. His green eyes filled with worry.
"Don't you dare miss that final shot. Take up as much of my energy as you need alright? Do it. Don't you dare die on me now."

I nodded despite the crude implication. He was willing to weaken himself for me. His thundering limbs shoved us away for one another.
"So you're not alone."
She mused, twisting to me. I brought the axe up but she latched it into her teeth and yanked me into the air. She swung me back and forth and sent me flying into a tower. My head smacked into the wall and I felt the skin spilt. Blood poured down the side of my face.
"Look at you, useless little fool."
She crawled her way to me.
