Granny's diner was rather quiet that Wednesday morning. The casual rush of customers was lacking that morning, making the diner extra quiet that day. The usual morning conversation now consisted of a few murmurs and the casual yawn from the blonde teenager sitting at a barstool alone.
"Happy 17th Birthday Aria." Granny cheered stepping out of the kitchen and slid a pile of pancakes across the bar and towards the blonde girl.
Aria glanced between the plate and the kind old woman, forcing a smile in thanks and began stabbing the pancakes in front of her. In the corner of her eye, the old woman, known as Granny, walked off and back to the kitchen.
Aria frowned while playing with her food. She always hated her birthday from never being an orphan. Why would she want to celebrate her birthday when it was the day her parents abandoned her at an orphanage? Truthfully, she wished no one knew about her birthday. She would prefer to forget about it. Luckily, Granny seemed to be the only one to pay attention to that kind of stuff.
A sad sigh escaped her lips, placing her chin in her palm. Her elbow rested on the table that she knew her adopted-mom would scold at but snuck out early to divert seeing her. Her blonde hair was curled into a fishtail braid down her back. Her blue turtleneck shirt matched her eyes, fitted with a pair of black jeans and boots. A simple, comfortable, and cute look put into one.
The bell chimed at the door to announce a new customer has arrived. Aria didn't have to look over to know who sat in the stool beside her, seeing the brown giant book being placed on the tabletop beside her.
"Morning Aria." Henry chimed happily.
Aria glanced at the large book and back at Henry. "Morning, Hen. I thought your mom told you not to walk to school alone?" She asked, sliding her plate forward losing her appetite and crossing her arms on the table.
Henry shrugged and flipped open the book in front of him. "I'm twelve. I can take care of myself." He protested flipping through the pages.
Aria chuckled at the younger boy's comment. Henry and Aria were both orphans at a young age but were adopted by two different women. Henry got adopted to Regina, the towns mayor. And Aria got adopted to a poor woman who owns the docks. The two kids got to know each other through the orphanage and after their adoptions, their friendship grew much further after that. They saw each other as brother and sister no matter what the papers said.
"So I did some more thinking." Henry explained stopping at a page. "About the Storybrooke being filled with characters from my book-"
"Henry." Aria interrupted with a frown.
Mary Margret had given Henry a book, thinking it would help his wild imagination and his trouble socializing with other kids. But when Henry started having this idea that everyone in town was a fairytale character, Mary Margret told Aria and Aria promised to try and help him divert from the book, knowing it would be hard.
"No listen!" Henry explained excitedly, looking up at the blonde with a giddy smile. "I finally know how to break the curse! All I have to do is go to New York and find my mom." Henry explained bluntly.
Aria sighed. "Henry, what you are implying is dangerous, irrational, and uncertain." She admits. "There are so many flaws to your plan. Like how do you know she is in New York? What do you think your mom will think? And where do you plan on getting that money from?" She asked many questions, trying to convince him not to do anything irrational.
"Don't worry about all of that. I have that covered."
Aria took a deep breath and shook her head. "Henry, you know I love you right?" He nodded. "Which is why I can't let you do this. You are taking this fairy-tale thing too far, Hen. You have to understand that Mary Margret is not Snow White, your mom is not the Evil Queen, and I am not Ariel's sister." She demanded.
