jisung stood frozen in front of his members, his eyes glued on the spot chenle had been standing at a few seconds before, just before he has stormed to his bedroom.
the criminal's heart was aching at that point, chenle's actions having made jisung understand that he wasn't needed here.
"h-hyung..." jisung whispered, turning towards taeyong and looking at him with tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
he wasn't expecting chenle to jump into his arms and wrap him in a hug as soon as he came into view. absolutely not.
maybe, he imagined chenle would stay frozen, staring at jisung, maybe pinching himself a few times to make sure he wasn't dreaming, maybe stuttering and at loss for words...
but he definitely wasn't expecting such a negative reaction.
chenle hadn't even let jisung speak. as soon as jisung had come into view, chenle had run away, slamming his door shut behind himself and making the other understand that he didn't want him.
"i told you things wouldn't be easy, jisung. but they will work out with time..." taeyong spoke reassuringly, placing a hand on the younger's shoulder.
"c-chenle doesn't want me..." jisung stuttered, trying his best to keep his tears in, and not appear as vulnerable in front of his members. but who was he kidding? he was human after all; he had times when he was happy, and others when he was sad, depressed, angry, and very vulnerable... and seeing all of his members after so long – seeing his family after so long – jisung couldn't help being emotional. and this was mostly due to the fact that they were all supportive of him, and that they had missed him and were happy to see him despite everything that he had done in the past.
"jisung, chenle does want you." kun stated smiling at the youngest boy.
"yes, and he does need you too." taeil specified.
"b-but... h-he..."
"chenle has been crying day and night for over a year because he missed you." sicheng told. "he has been wanting you to come back ever since you left us... and seeing you standing in the middle of the living room, after a whole year without news may have overwhelmed him."
"yeah, chenle is someone fragile." johnny nodded. "he has always been, but it became worse after you left."
jisung swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat as he listened his members talking.
only then did he realise how much he had hurt chenle by doing the simple action of leaving.
one yeard ago, he had decided to leave, because he knew being around chenle and the other members would have them being in trouble, and he was sure that they would end up hurt – either morally or physically – for any reason.
but now, with hindsight, jisung was realising that perhaps, staying by nct's side would have hurt chenle less than he hurt him by disappearing from his life.
"what the others are trying to say, jisung, is that chenle still feels the same, and that he needs you."taeyong said wisely. "it will surely take him a bit of time to accept that you are back, but you have to understand that he's still the same chenle, and you're still the same jisung, which means that, one way or another, you'll end up together again."
