Veronica Roth made Divergent not me.

Tris Pov.

I look up and stare at the sky. I breathe in and out it helps me focus." Beatrice," my mother says putting a hand on my shoulder. "You shouldn't be up so early," she says smiling "it is your big day". Yes, today is big. My aptitude test changes everything. My choice. my future. I breathe in and out one last time before coming inside.

It's weird how you can be so sure of something. yet when it comes to it you can't do anything. I was certain that I was going to choose Abnegation but now I'm not sure.

I'm in the kitchen eating toast when Caleb walks in. I instantly break the toast In half and give him a piece.

He smiles and says "it's your big day". "our big day," I say smiling back. "You're 16 too" "yeah," he says staring at the ceiling.

Caleb and I have the same classes together. Well, that's what happens when you have a twin brother. Caleb and I were born on the same day. He was born first I was born 13 minutes later.

Caleb and I are sitting together at lunch. Lunch is the time when the aptitude tests start. I bite my nails as I hear names being called. Christina Fred and Uriah. I watch as they walk past. Christina is a girl from candor. I don't know her I just know that she is Christina. Because it's a girl's name. And I doubt it is one of the boys that walk past. I can't tell who. I got a glimpse of their faces. One is a boy from Amity and the other is Dauntless.

I spend ages trying to guess which one is Fred and which one is Uriah. But then I realise Fred isn't a tough name so he must be the Amity boy. I look over at the table where a few Dauntless girls are chatting. I wonder what it would be like in Dauntless. So careless and free.

I snap out of my daze when Caleb nudges me with his shoulder.
"What's wrong," I say kinda annoyed that he interrupted me. he points at a girl leaning against the wall glaring at me. I can't tell which faction she Is from because they make the people monitoring the aptitude test wear white.

And I know she called me and I probably was distracted. I wipe my hands on my dress and wall over towards the woman. She opens a door and I enter.

It's bright like really bright. I cover my eyes. "Are you afraid of mirrors?" the woman says?

I'm confused why would she think I'm afraid of mirrors. But when I open my eyes I see the room is practically covered with mirrors.

I stare at my reflection. I stare and examine my face. I know I should look away but who knows when I'll see my face again.

She smiles at me. "It's nice to see who you truly are, isn't it"? I nod my head wondering what faction I belong in. Well, I guess I'm going to find out now.

The woman taps the chair and I sit. She attaches wires to the side of my head.

Presses a few buttons on her computer and I feel myself drifting off to sleep. I wake up and I'm in the cafeteria. But I'm standing up

So this isn't real I close my eyes and try to figure out how I just appeared here out of nowhere. Then I click it's my aptitude test today. I must be inside the simulation.

I open my eyes and see that there are now things on three of the tables.

Meat a Knife and a Bone. I'm so confused why is there a bone on the table? Choose I hear a voice say I turn around and nobody is there.

But something in my head tells me to pick up the bone what if I see a hungry dog? And I do suddenly in a blink of an eye the other items disappear. And I hear a bark I turn to see a dog and it's hungry I'll tell you.

I stare at the bone in my hand. Slowly I walk towards the dog.
I put the bone on the floor under its face. The dog begins to chew on the bone.

"Puppy" I hear in a squeaky voice. I turn around and see a little girl in a grey dress She's abnegation. But then I hear the dog snarling and barking at her.

The dog run towards the girl before I can stop myself I'm chasing after not the dog but the girl.

When I'm finally near the girl the dog is too it's about to jump on her. I push her out of the way the dog jumps on me instead.

I feel the pain of the dog biting my skin I refuse to scream or cry because I'm happy the girl is safe. I just lay there as the dog bites me. When I see the little girl getting up I smile.

She's safe and that is exactly what I wanted. Not because I was raised to do it but because I knew it was right. I close my eyes.

I wake up and stare at the lady who now has her mouth open and eyes wide. I'm expecting her to tell me I got abnegation. That was all selfless picking up the bone because some dog could eat the bone.

The lady takes the wires off my head opens the back door and says "get out". I'm confused why "you still haven't told me my results".

"Get out" she whisper yells. "No", I say crossing my arm "not until you tell me".

"You really wanna know" she says. "Fine, I'll tell you abnegation
And dauntless". I'm confused when she says that. More confused than I was when she told me to get out.

I shake my head I know exactly what she means and why she told me to leave. I belong in not one but two factions which means I'm different. "Divergent" I whisper she nods.

They say that Divergents are the cause of the war. That is because people found out how their minds work differently.

It made people angry that just because they can do more they got more attention. And of course, people were rebellious. and what started as a little research on how the human mind work turned into a huge war.

The teachers tell us about it at school. "I don't understand," I say staring at the floor "what I did was selfless, not brave."

"You didn't scream when the dog was biting you and saving her was selfless," she says then she shrugs shakes her head and then sighs. "He said this could happen" she whispers. She turns to me and grabs my hand.

"My advice to you is that you stay away from Erudite and Abnegation. "Those are the places where they easily find divergents." I nod and smile before getting up from the chair.

"Prior don't tell anyone understand," she says sternly. I nod and walk to the door.

I pause my hand at the door handle. I turn around "excuse me," I say in my sweet abnegation voice.

"Yeah", she says looking up. "What's your name". She smiles "it's Shauna". I nod and leave the room.

Caleb walks towards me looking worried. "What you've been in their ages. My aptitude test took no more than 5 minutes."

"Well", I say "when you're a silly little girl you take long when doing things."

He laughs a little. "Beatrice, you'd fit in well at dauntless."
"Why do you say that," I ask considering transferring there. "You're always hyper and active." "I'm not," I say though I know he's right.

"Caleb", I whisper "mmm," he says rubbing his hand on his top.
"Can you make a promise?" He then looks at me and says.

"I promise no matter where we go we will go there together." "How did you know what I was going to say," I ask. "Come on Beatrice we're twins. I think It's time to go, home now mama and papa, are probably getting worried," he says in his Abengation voice.
