I walked down to our circular lunch table, near the vending machines. Sam had somehow sweet-talked the lunch ladies into letting him be first in line—so he was already scarfing down the mash potatoes, his meatloaf steaming.

"Hey..." I sat down next to him and pull out my cold lunch.

He gulped down a giant spoon full of potatoes and glanced at me, "So...tell me about James."

I blushed—not about James—from nervousness. "Wha-What about him?"

"Why do you like that pretentious asshole?" He takes a drink of the skim milk carton.

"I don't know. I guess it just happened?"

James walked over and put his hands on the back of my chair, "Hey uh—princess?"

I pressed my lips together, "hm?" I looked up at him.

"What do you want me to bring tonight...if you know what I mean." He smirked.

I furrowed my brows, "James. No. Not on the first—"

He cut me off, "Alright, alright. I got it, I'll same em' for later on." He patted my shoulder before walking away.

Sam stared at me, his mouth gaping open, his eyes shocked, in disbelief, and full of disgust. "...what in gods name was that."

"What?" I hit his arm.

"He asked if you wanted to fuck...right in front of me. I think I'll puke up my
Mashed potatoes."

"Those are your favorite. I wouldn't suggest that." I smiled and pulled out my sandwich.

"So how did he ask you out?"

"He pulled me away from the crowd before asking me. And I didn't believe him until...well he-"

Sam raised his brows, "He didn't...."
I nodded, looking down at my sandwich.

Sam gasped and slammed his hand on the table, "Fuck that shit. Gross. I can't believe he kissed you on school property. And for the first time too," He shivered in disgust.

I rolled my eyes, "You and blondie kiss on school property all the time. What's so bad about it?"

"Because we are already a couple and have kissed outside of school first. Keywords: outside of school first." He eagerly leaned over to me, "You can't like him."

I furrowed my brows, "What does me liking him have anything to do with you and your feelings?" I asked.

"They don't, I just—"

"Bae!" Steph threw her backpack on the chair next to the one she was going to sit in, "You got your food before me? Now we can't stand in line next to eachotherrrr~" Steph whined and stomped her foot.

Sam flattened his lips into a line, "Sorry babe they had mashed potatoes and I had to jump on that shit or it would all be gone."

She huffed, glaring at me. "I saw you talking to James, what's that about?"

"I-"

Sam answered for me as he cuts his meatloaf, "James asked her out. They kissed too."

"Sam-" I hit his arm, once again.

She cocked her brow, "You kissed him?"

"Yeah, I guess?"

"Oh..." her face relaxed before she walked to the lunch line that started to curve around the tables.
