I woke up and opened the few presents my parents had bought me. I thanked them with hugs and made them a pot of coffee—since they finished their first one. I poured myself one and I asked my...very absent father:

"Can I visit Sam today?"

"You saw him last night didn't you?" He questioned.

I shrug, "Yeah but I've got to give him his Christmas presents."

"Can't you wait until mid-day? How do you even know the boy is up?"

"But dad-"

"Let him have Christmas morning with his family. You don't have to be with him all the time."

I sigh and walk to my room after putting the presents back under the tree. I shut my room and stared out the window at the Kiszka's house across the street.
I called Sam's number and held the flip phone to my ear.

   "Hey! Merry Christmas girly!"

   I smiled, "Merry Christmas Sammy."

"Did you open your stuff yet?"

"No, mom and dad just woke up so we are all making breakfast."

"Open the living room curtains." I say and hold the phone with my cheek and should as I push up my window and screen.

The curtains to Sam's house pull apart and I see him in plaid sweatpants and a white tee-shirt. He smiled and waved at me.

   "You look tired," he laughed.

"Yeah...when do you think we can hang out today? I got something to give you."

"Um," he leaned against the window, "Probably like- 11:00pm? I've got a bunch of stuff happening today. Here and at my grandparents. It might even be later than that."

"Oh..." My voice sounded a bit disappointed, I knew it was.

"But I'll call you when we leave my grandparents. But it will still be two hours from then because they live in the U-P."

"The upper peninsula is too far away." I grown.

He chuckled, "Yeah but the more time you get to contemplate what I got you. And the be airily let down because you thought it was something extravagant."

I laughed, "I bet you that it will be amazing."

"I'm having doubts, but hey. I wonder if yours is any good."

"Sam! Come help me with pancakes!" His little sister yelled from the other room.

"Gotta go girly. Call ya later."

"Bye." I smiled as he hung up and ran to the kitchen.

The rest of the day was pretty boring. I eventually found spots to put the presents that I had gotten that morning. Skipped out on lunch since I wasn't hungry from the breakfast we had. I wrapped Sam's present, put a bow on it, and wrote in sharpie on the wrapping paper:

'To: Sam'

Around 10:30 PM I got a call from Sam, at that point I was already dozing. He said that they were packing up all the crockpots and things like that that were left over, saying goodbye which you know it took another 10 minutes.
He said we didn't have to exchange gifts tonight if I didn't want to.

"I want to."

"I can hear that you're tired, just go to bed. We can do it tomorrow." He pushed.

"No. When you get home turn that bright ass garage light on, it'll wake me up if I'm sleeping."
