Main POV
_____________________________

   "Broke up? H-How? When?"

He rubbed the back of his neck and started the car, pulling out of the parking spot before he answered, "Just a few minutes ago."

"How in the world did that happen?" I leaned closer to him, not bothering with my seat belt.

"She told me to choose." He blankly said, staring out at the road.

"Choose what?"

"Between you or her."

"And you chose..." I knew what he chose.

"You," he cleared his throat, "I chose you."

I gulped, "You chose me." I almost couldn't believe it but I also was entirely satisfied. It was a horrible thing to think. That I was happy he dumped her. No one should wish that.

"Yeah."

The rest of the ride home was quiet. Not one of us said anything. Sam parked the car and then got out. I got out and walked to him.

"Do you want me to stay with you?" I asked, holding the straps of my backpack.

He looked down, furrowing his brows, "I uh- think you better go home."

"You sure."

His voice broke and started to shake, "Yeah."
I didn't want to leave him there when he was obviously upset. But I didn't want to make him uncomfortable. After a few seconds more of my standing in front of him he fell into the side of the car and covered his face.

"Sam-" I whispered and touched his arm, throwing my backpack in the ground. He quickly clung to me, squeezing the life out of me as he tried to suck up his tears.
I rubbed his back, "Sam...let's go inside okay?"

Sam nodded and slowly pulled away, sniffling. He carried his mopey self and backpack inside. I dragged mine in and shut the door behind me. Sam had already placed his butt on the sofa, his face in his hands and his elbows on his knees, the tip of his nose pink from the rubbing.

I sat down next to him and pulled a hand away from his face, he moved the other hand to the side of his head and looked at me.
I placed a Penny into his palm, not having to speak for him to understand.

He let out a deep sigh, "I feel stupid," he smiled a small bit.

"Why?"

"Because she wasn't good to me. I-" he covered his mouth, stopping himself before his voice cracked, "I didn't love her but...I guess I did in a way." He shook his head, "I don't know."

"You did love her, and yes, she wasn't nice to you. That's why you fell out of love." I rubbed his back.

He leaned into me, "I can't see myself being with anyone...ever. Steph was cold, I don't like anyone else as a person enough to want to date them...you are the only person I trust, and I love." He mumbled.

"I love and trust you too Sam." I smiled, "I'll do your homework for you-"

"For the rest of my high school career?" He looked up at me.
