Sam POV
_____________________________Around 1:30 I watch her drive off in James' shitty car that probably smells like dick cheese. I close the curtains and spun around to see Jake right behind me, sipping on a Barq's RootBeer—straight from the bottle.
"What." I narrow my eyes.
"You on your period or something?" He smirks.
"That's offensive."
"To you?" Jake furrows his brows.
"No. To women." I crossed my arms.
"Tell them I apologize next time you see em' but in the mean time—why are you stalking Neighbor Girl?"
"She has a name."
"Yeah, Neighbor Girl."
I groan, "She's going out with James Cline." I plop on the couch that my knees had been pressed against as I observed her.
"So?"
"Soooo, he's an ass."
"And that's your problem, why?" Jake cocks his head to the side slightly, "I mean you're not the one dating him."
"But my best friend is. And I don't want her dating him!"
"...because you like her?"
"No. I don't like her—you and Josh keep saying that dumb shit. I don't!"
"Mmm-" he nods and turns his back—holding his hands up, one grasping the brown, translucent bottle with two fingers, "Okay then. Just wait, you'll realize how obvious it is soon enough." Jake walks through the kitchen and into the garage.
I flip him off through the wall—because he couldn't see me—he would beat the living shit out of me if he saw that middle finger flip up anywhere in his vicinity.Steph pulls into the drive way in her white car and sashays inside. She had her hair down, her side part made one half of her blonde hair more voluminous. She wore a tank top with lace at the top underneath a thin, v-neck sweater that was baby blue, and low rise shorts.
"Hey Stephie.""Hey Bae," She skips over to me and pecks my lips, "You are so gorg right now, maybe it's the lighting." She squished my cheeks with one hand.
The overbearing smell of Cotton Candy perfume fumigated any live hairs in my nose—burning them from the sheer intensity of it."Steph, you must bathe in that Cotton Candy shit—it's so strong."
She furrows her brows, "Samuel."
"Sorry, it's just burning my nose hairs off, like don't get me wrong it smells lovely; but not in astronomical amounts." I remove her hand from my face and tuck her hair behind her ear.
She quickly fixes it, and combs her hands through her hair, "Don't do that, you could mess it up."
I groan and go limp into the couch cushions. Steph straddles me and plays with my hair, "How was the uh- skank?"
"Sorry?"
"Your girl best friend?"
"She just had some issues and she wanted to be comforted."
She presses her lips onto a line, "You sure that's your job? To comfort her, I mean. You are never here for me so why should you be there for her?"
"Because she's my best friend? And you never come to me with any issues so it's not like I could be here for you because you don't give my any opportunity to."
Stephanie just glared at me. I felt like it was a personal attack on not just my best friend, but on me. She did that, all the time. She would make slide common some things she would wear or what I would say to her, and what I would not say. She had all these ridiculous speculations. None of them were true.
I loved Stephanie, with all of my heart.
"You act like I haven't tried to come to you for things. I have, you almost ignore me." She gets off of my lap and sits beside me on the couch.
"Maybe make it more obvious next time? I don't even realize you're coming to me for advice or to vent." I tuck my hair behind my ears on each side, "Listen, i'm not trying to be a dick. But I feel like you constantly argue with me about her. And I don't really appreciate it."
"Argue? Sam, what is there to argue about? You obviously like her more than me."
There she goes, with her stupid accusations
" that's not true, and it's not like he would know that anyway you can't read my mind. If you could have me pretty cool, but that's not the point—" I clear my throat, "I love-"
My phone vibrated, and buzzed again my back pocket. I flip it open and see it's from...
Steph glanced down at the screen, "Neighbor girl?"
"Sh, sh, sh," I put a finger up and answer, "Yo, what's up?" I waited for a response, but all I heard was arguing, yelling and screaming.
"Hello? You there?" I slowly sit up and bend over my knees."JAMES I SAID STOP!" Her voice almost completely blew out the speakers on my flip phone, I hung up instantly, the time on the phone was 1:56. I shoved that shit into my back pocket. I scrambled for shoes tumbling into them as I walked.
"Sam where are you going?" Steph asked.
"I'll tell you later, be back in 30" I kissed her cheek and snatched my keys from the hook next to the front door and split out of there as fast as I could.
