The Confusion

The minute the bell for lunch rang, Blaire was out of her seat and heading to the student section. She had to talk to Callie. After the little incident by the stairs, things had only gotten weirder. Blaire hadn't been able to focus through math, which happened to be her favorite class. That had to mean something.

Stepping into the large lounge area, Blaire glanced around for Callie. She was nowhere to be found. With a sigh, she went and stood with Melissa and Destiny, two of Callie's closer friends that she had been introduced to the day before. Both were about Blaire's height. Destiny had long blond hair and shimmering blue eyes. Melissa, on the other hand, was a brunette. Both had outgoing personalities that made them stand out from the rest of Calie's friends, and Blaire had become fast friends with them.

"Looking for Callie?" Destiny asked the instant she walked up. Blaire opened her mouth to answer when both girls started laughing.

"You owe me five bucks," Melissa laughs. Destiny glares at her and passes the money over.

"What did you bet on?" Blaire asked after a slight hesitation.

"How long it would be before you had to ask where she was. I said it would be less than a week, but Destiny said a month. She seemed to think that because Clair and Callie were inseparable, you guys would be too. I agree, but even Clair would be searching for Callie at least once a week," Melissa states. She obviously had more to say, but Destiny cuts her off with one quick, whithering look.

"Well either way, where is Callie? I have to talk to her," Blaire muttered, wondering what their little look was about but not having the time to ask.

"Funny story, actually. Lorenzo showed up about a minute before you walked in. He grabbed Callie and they left without a word. I would assume they are in the cafeteria, but I doubt they want to be disturbed," Destiny warns. Blaire quickly thanks them and takes off.

She spends a couple minutes getting lost after taking a wrong turn, still not used to her new school. When she finally finds her way to the cafeteria, she spots Callie and Lorenzo in a deep conversation. She makes her way to their table at the back of the room and plops down in the seat next to her best friend.

"Thank goodness you're here, Blaire," Lorenzo mutters, his voice low.

"Lorenzo! I already told you what she remembers," Callie hisses in an exasperated tone. Blaire begins to question her choice to barge into this conversation.

"What's going on?" Blaire asks. She already has an idea, but she decided to check anyways.

"I woke up this morning with a pounding headache, no memory of last night, and about a thousand texts asking about my 'hookup' with Callie," Lorenzo growls. "Neither of us can remember what happened. Callie said you saw us flirting and making out, but did we, you know, do it?"

"I have no clue," came Blaire's honest response. He groaned, resting his head against the wall behind him.

"I still have to finish cleaning, my headache's coming back, and I have no clue what really happened. Wonderful," Lorenzo complains, standing up. He says goodbye to the girls and walks away from the table, obviously furious.

"He isn't going to be in class, is he?" Blaire already knows the answer, she just wanted to break the awkward silence that had ensued.

"Nope," Callie responded.

"You okay?"

"Not at all. I was hoping Lorenzo would remember what happened last night. He's never forgotten any of his parties before, after all. But now we are stuck listening to all these rumors about a hookup neither of us remember," Callie's voice was at that clenched, high pitched tone that indicated she was about to cry.

"Callie," Blaire starts, only to be interrupted.

"I can't talk right now. Please distract me. Did anything happen with Dillon?" Callie forces the words out of her mouth, shutting her eyes to stop the tears from flowing.

"Actually, that's what I came to talk to you about. A lot of stuff went down in the last three hours," Blaire starts. Callie gives a small nod, showing that she's listening.

"Well before math class, he pulled me aside and we said some random things about the rumors and then he kissed me," Blaire laughs as Callie's head snaps back up.

"What?" she screeched, all of her worries forgotten.

"I said he kissed me. But it was more than a kiss, Callie. I feel like there was a spark there," Blaire cringes a little at how cliche she's being.

"What did he say after? Did he give you his number? Ask you out? Use a cheesy pick up line?" Callie has obviously gotten over her issues for the moment, all traces of sadness gone as she shoots questions at Blaire.

"He said, and I quote, 'fuck' before walking away," Blaire says. Shock fills Callie's face.

"That's it? Did he do anything in class?"

"Well, kind of."

"What do you mean kind of?"

"It was weird. I walked in a few seconds after him and sat down. He just ignored me, which I expected. But then, when we had to take notes, he flicked a little paper ball at me. I just shook my head and got out my notebook. Throughout the class, random little papers kept hitting me in the side. I would look at him after every one, and even at random times, and I never once caught him doing anything. He didn't look at me, didn't say anything, but he did keep flicking the balls at me," Blaire explains.

"Weird," Callie comments.

"Right?" Blaire asks before going on. "So I just put up with it, figuring he would be done by the end of the class. When the bell rang, I gathered up all of the little balls and dumped them in the trash on my way out."

"And that was it?" Callie asks.

"Nope! I forgot I have him in my fourth hour class too. He sits across the room, and like I said earlier today, I wasn't payed much attention to him yesterday when we got the seating chart," Blaire responds.

"And?"

"And halfway through class I got hit by a full size paper ball," she growls. Callie can't help but laugh a little.

"So did you throw it away?" Callie questions.

"No, I was going to write 'stop' on it and throw it back, but when I opened it there was already writing." Blaire reaches down and opens her backpack quickly.

"What did it say?" Callie screeches, drawing attention to the two friends. Blaire just silently passes a crinkled paper to Callie, watching a shocked look come over her face as she reads the words written in surprisingly neat handwriting.

Text me. We have to talk.

Those words and his number were the only things on the paper.

"So what are you going to do?" Callie grins, her problems with Lorenzo completely and totally forgotten.

"Well, he is the bad boy of the school, and I would be stupid to think I can change him. He's most likely just going to use me. I'm supposed to be a good girl. So I guess the only thing to do is text him," Blaire replies with a devilish grin. With that the girls stand up together and saunter out of the cafeteria, leaving everybody wondering what conversation they could have possibly had to get Callie to freak out the way she did.
