jay stood by the evidence board, explaining the current situation.

"so.." jay started, pointing at the board. "we talked to marcos, he claimed the cameras were covered prior to the murder. he showed us the surveillance footage, but we weren't able to look for ourselves since we don't have a warrant."

"any witnesses?" voight asked, observing from the back of the room.

"the only reported one was naomi williams. she has an alibi, wasn't in for the whole week." hailey answered, spinning in her chair to look a voight. 

"the dna sample come back?" kim asked, leaning against her desk.

jay shook his head. "they lost it."

hailey furrowed her brows, and sat up abruptly. "how do you lose a dna sample?"

"no clue." jay responded simply. "they're trying to trace any other identifiers from the scene, but it's not looking good."

"so we're back to square one? we haven't located viola, and the only evidence is spencer's fingerprints."

"nope." adam corrected. "just located viola, at..177 west avenue."

hailey raised an eyebrow. "how'd you do that?"

"apparently, she's a lawyer." he replied, reading off his computer. "she resigned a few years back to spend time with her kids. "

 jay looked at hailey, who had the same expression of confusion on her face. hailey hadn't known much about viola, but she certainly thought she would've known if she had kids. 

"alright, jay and hailey. hit it." voight instructed.

jay and hailey drove to their designated address, and parked beside the driveway. the house was big, almost a bit too big for a retired lawyer and single mother.

hailey slammed the door as she got out jay's truck, and walked up to the front door.

jay followed behind her, and knocked on the door. "chicago pd!" he yelled.

unexpectedly, a man opened the door. "can i help you?" 

hailey glanced at jay confusedly, before turning back to the man. "detective upton and halstead. is viola kelsey here?"

"no, can i give her a message?" the man asked.

hailey paused to look at jay, who continued for her. "i'm sorry, who are you?"

"thomas kelsey." he answered, confused.

"and you are..?"

"viola's husband."

hailey's mouth fell open, and she turned to jay, who was already looking at her.

"you don't happen to know viola's maiden name, do you?" hailey asked,

he nodded his head, "oh yes, marcos? i believe."

and then it clicked.

hailey exhaled sharply, before speaking once again. "tell her to give us a call."

"it was viola." hailey announced, as she walked into the bullpen.

voight turned to her, and waited for her to continue what she was saying.

she walked over to the the evidence board, and pointed to viola's name. "turns out, viola's married to man named thomas kelsey. he told us her maiden name was marcos."
