kim sat anxiously on the examination table, fiddling with her thumbs. adam watched her from the chair on the other side of the bed.
"stop staring at me." kim told adam brusquely. she'd been able to feel his eyes on her the whole appointment, mostly out of nervousness.
adam looked away, and looked at the wall instead. even though she couldn't really see his face, she could still tell how he was feeling.
"why are you so nervous?" she finally asked, him turning back at the sound of her voice.
he looked around the room before answering. "it's becoming real.."
"i know." she agreed, seeming calm on the outside, but agreeing internally.
"i mean, you're handling it so well, you know?" he started, "i feel like it still hasn't hit me."
her face softened at his words, not knowing this is how he felt. she opened her mouth to respond, but was cut off by a light knocking on the door. the two turnt their attention to the door, and watched as the doctor walked in.
"hi dr.hayes." kim said politely, as the older woman walked in.
"hi kim." she turned to look at adam, not really knowing who he was, so just showing him a smile.
"this is adam." kim introduced him to the doctor, as he reached out his hand for her to shake.
she took it politely, before walking up to the computer in the room.
"now kim, according to your ultrasound, everything looks great. baby looks healthy, you have nothing to worry about."
kim sighed in relief. "that's great news, thank you dr. hayes." she slid off the table, and her and adam were ready to leave the room.
"would you two like to know the gender?" the doctor asked, both kim and adam looking at her abruptly.
"what?" kim asked.
"you're far enough along to determine the gender, would you like to know?" dr. hayes asked calmly.
although she was playing it off, kim's heart was racing. she looked over at adam to see his input. he nodded gently, clearly in a daze as well.
"yeah, sure." kim responded eagerly.
the doctor opened her files, double checking one last time.

"ooh, i like this song." hailey commented, lying upside down on the couch. fresh eyes by andy grammar was playing softly in the background, as jay lie on the ground, looking for songs with hailey.
as their wedding date approached, the checklist of things became smaller, and they reached a point where only a few things had to be done.
their goal for the time being was to decide on music, ultimately deciding they didn't want a live band. instead of spending their money on that, they'd put it towards something more important in the future.
"add it to the list." jay instructed, as he scrolled on his phone as well. "what do we have so far?" he asked her, after a moment of silence.
"uh, love in the dark, my little love, fresh eyes, and iris." she said, revealing the short list
"wow." jay said simply, "we've made lot of progress in 2 hours." he said sarcastically, getting up from the ground he'd been.
"the group on their way?" he asked, making his way into the kitchen. the couple had invited the rest of the unit over for lunch, and were waiting for them to arrive, figuring they'd make good use of their time.
"adam and kim are on their way, and v and kev are down the street." hailey said, reviewing their previous messages.
jay nodded at the information, pulling a water out of the fridge. "is it me, or has adam been acting weird lately?" he said, out of the blue.
hailey raised her eyebrows, being caught off guard. "maybe, but it's adam. he's always weird."
jay laughed at her comment, but noticed the awkwardness in her voice. "i think you know something i don't." he accused.
hailey shook her head. "nope."
he let it go, still skeptical, but brought hailey a water from the fridge. just as she took the drink, there was a knocking at the door.
he got up, and to no surprise, vanessa and kevin were outside, bags in their hands.
"hey." jay welcomed them in, hugging them both. hailey got up at the sight, helping them bring their bags in.
"you guys didn't have to bring anything." hailey awed at the pair's kindness. vanessa shrugged mindlessly.
-
after the 4 had gotten settled in, they had all gathered in the living room, discussing whatever had come to mind.
"so.." vanessa started, "have you guys started your wedding countdown."
hailey shook her head. "no, frankly."
"feels like time is going by so fast, and we still have so much left to do."
kevin shurgged. "you guys got what..2 months?" he started. "don't stress."
hailey nodded at his encouragement. jay opened his mouth to continue the discussion, but was cut off by the door knocking once again.
"i got this one." hailey mumbled, getting off the couch, and walking towards the door.
she welcomed them both inside, helping them get settled into the house with kevin and vanessa.
-
"so.." kim started once they were all situated, and the time had felt right. "i have something to tell you guys."
hailey furrowed her brows, not sure this was going where she thought it was.
she opened her mouth to speak once more, but cut herself off, reaching into her purse to grab something. instead of speaking, she silently pulled out an ultrasound photo, and placed it on the coffee table in front of her.
the group collectively gasped, and looked up at kim to make sure they understood her correctly.
"i'm pregnant!" she announced softly, a big smile on her face.
the whole group cheered and applauded for her (and adam of course, as they had already assumed it was his.)
jay looked at hailey, and noticed she was the most calm of the group. he then connected the dots, and gave her a knowing look.
"that's what you knew." he pieced together in relief.
"yes," adam started, "but there is something you don't know hailey." kim pulled another piece of paper out from her purse, and held it out for her to see.
"it's a boy." he stated proudly, hailey's jaw dropping at the knews.
"oh my god, you guys!" she squealed hugging the two proudly.
simultaneously, all 6 of the group's phones went off, meaning they'd all recieved a message.
they looked to see it was from none other than their sergeant.
'when you all get the chance, meet me at the district. i have news.'
