Even though they had just been told quite clearly that doing anything "sinful" would land them a one way ticket to jail, they found their feet carrying them to where all the wrongdoings happened, well most of them anyway. They all walked side by side silently, unaware they were being followed.
Oliver had managed to catch sight of them just as they were about to turn a corner by the Henderson household. Yes, the Hendersons do live directly next to the church, but I doubt your very surprised. Anyway, Oliver had followed them all the way up to Sallie Patterson's house. At this time, Oliver started to think they were nothing special. They acted normal enough and didn't seem to be doing anything that could endanger the people and their beliefs. Oliver was just about to give up when he saw all three of them enter the same house.
It was a big place, well bigger than most houses in Roanoke anyway. At first he thought they all could be living together, but he shook that thought out of his head when he remembered Freddy Elliott did live with his father. Then he thought they were hanging out at someone else's house, but he shook that thought out of his head remembering the place had been abandoned for years. He was actually pretty close with that second thought you know, but Oliver had the habit of never going with his brain, at least not fully.
Oliver silently decided to sneak into the house and spy on the trio from there.
This was when the wheels started to turn for Oliver Martinez, wheels of his fate that is.
He found his way to the side of the house and looked through the window, creating a clear circle because the dust and grime on it was so slick. Through that window he saw rows and rows of book shelves filled with books. None of which ,he noted, were the bible.
Now, do realize that Oliver could've ,and really should've, gone straight back to the Minister then and told him if the things he had saw and where he had seen them. Things would've and Oliver would have been made the hero a lot quicker. But Oliver was not that clever and he did not do this. Instead he chose to prop open the window with a stick and crawl through.
He landed rather clumsily on the couch then fell on the floor. Luckily, no had heard him and if they did they did not seem to care.
Slowly, Oliver got up cringing at every sound his leather jacket made. He did not waste time examining the room, but instead quietly walked out of the room sticking close to the beige wall. He poked his head into every room, finding Things like tattoo ink, various alcohol and drugs, and things he couldn't name because he was never taught about what they were.
Eventually, he found the living room still not having laid eyes on either of the Bakers or the Minister's son. He sighed and went out into the open. Wherever they were they weren't here. That is what he thought at least before he laid eyes upon a very wide eyed Henry Baker and was hit in the head with a vase.
