"Merry Christmas to you and the kids," the text read. I didn't recognize the number, or even the area code. Also, it wasn't even Christmas. It was mid-July.
"Sorry," I responded. "Wrong number. Merry Christmas to you, too, though!"
I didn't think anything of it when I didn't receive a reply. Most people, when confronted with a wrong number, don't strike up a conversation with the person on the other end. Too personable for the folks in today's society, I guess. So I was surprised when earlier this week I felt a familiar vibration from my pocket, retrieved my phone and saw a return text from the unknown number.
"It's too late for them," it read. "But Papa Kringle was very merry indeed. Know anyone else who might want a seat on Santa's lap?"
I changed my number.
