When you are admitted to a hospital, they give you a white wristband with your name on it. But different colored wristbands symbolize different things. The red wristbands are placed on dead people.
There was one surgeon who worked the night shift at the hospital, just finishing a operation and was on his way to the basement. When he entered the elevator, there was a woman in there already. He chatted casually with her while the elevator descended. When the doors opened to the elevator, there was a young woman waiting to get on. The doctor slammed his hand on the elevator button, closing the elevator doors before the other woman could get on.
The woman with him in the elevator scolded him for being rude and demanded why he didn't let the young lady outside get on.
The surgeon explained, "I was just doing surgery on that woman. She died before I could complete the operation. Didn't you see the red wristband on her hand?"
The woman in the elevator smiled, holding up her right hand. "A wristband like this?"
