It's another month before I see Austin again, even if I'm back to talking to Avery. Whenever she brings him and the horses up I shut down. I could've ruined or injured his horse. How could I do that to him? After all he's done for me. I can't possibly face him again.
DogWithABlog: Will you please just talk to him??? Get back on that horse and rodeo together???
Blaze: Read
But there he is, sipping coffee as he types on his phone again. MCR shirts and ripped black jeans. A frown on his face. I try to slowly back out of the café but it doesn't take long for us to lock eyes.
"B- Blaze!" He shouts, standing up. A few people look over, including a employee with long black hair tied back in a messy bun, but I attempt to look away from them all.
He runs over, grabbing my elbows. "A- Are you ok?" His brows are furrowed as he looks up at me with worried brown eyes.
"Mphm, yeah," I can't look him in those said eyes.
"I'm so glad! When you fell I about had a heart attack, I'm glad you're ok."
"I'm sorry about Flash."
"Hm? What about him?"
"Isn't he hurt?" I look up.
"No, he's just fine. A little fall like that won't kill him."
"B- But Mouse!"
"Mouse was a much worse case, she was getting older anyways and probably would've retired in a few months. She could probably still be lightly trail ridden but I decided to just retire her. I was more worried about you."
"I was worried I hurt him."
"Is that why you're ignoring me?" His voice cracks slightly.
I nod, not wanting to speak.
He wraps his arms around me, "Flash is ok, and even if he wasn't, I wouldn't blame you. You were amazing out there, accidents happen."
"Wh- When going to third I couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted to impress you, prove I was better than those buckle bunnies. But then-"
"What? You think I could fall for those buckle bunnies over you? Ha! You're funny!" It takes him a second to register what he just said, but then he's stuttering and waving his arms like a bird in mating season.
"Are you saying you like me?" I say with a smirk.
"I- No!- Uh- Maybe?"
"I- I kind of like you too," I rub the back of my neck awkwardly.
"Does this mean you'll keep talking to me?"
"I- I suppose."
"And you'll keep working with the barrels?"
"Mhm. . ."
He smiles that cowboy smile of his, leading me to his seat in the café so we can catch up. We do, and it's great. I've missed this. I've missed him. We talk and talk on and on about stuff that doesn't even matter, but it matters to us. He's so easy to talk to, he's so perfect.
