"OK I'll go first." Hyunjin shook out his long limbs and cracked his neck by leaning it side to side. He took a deep breath and before I could protest, Felix's hand shot across my mouth. The gentle scent of rosewater entered my nose as deep breaths began flooding my body. I felt positively sick watching as his slender legs disappeared below the top of the beam. One by one.
"Don't say anything." Lix whispered directly into my ear. "You'll throw him off. He's a real sore loser too." He warned as his lips brushed my skin lightly. I nodded to indicate I understood and instinctively reached out to Felix. He felt my hand slowly moving around his waist, and pulled me into his side. He held me close, and allowed me to hide my head in his chest.
"OK, start timing!" Hyunjin called loudly from below us. I couldn't bring myself to look down from the dizzying height we were at.
"Gotcha." Lix's phone screen lit up the pitch black darkness around us, and provided a small barrier of light to protect us from the deep night.
"Oh my god." I breathed as I dared to allow my eyes to wander. They drifted to where I could see his fingers, gripping for dear life. His white knuckles looked strained as his hands desperately gripped to the smooth metal.
"Hey Lix, watch this!" Without warning Hyunjin began swinging himself back and forth, like a leaf blowing in a gentle summer breeze. But this was one leaf I didn't want to fall from the tree.
"P-Please stop it. I'm gonna vomit." I begged as I pressed my hand to my stomach. This was sickening.
"Ok, Lix help me back up or I'm gonna fall." Hyunjin stated casually.
"Say please." Felix smirked as he slowly bent down.
"Please."
"Call me princess." How were they still not taking this seriously?!
"Pull him up!" I squeaked as my heart lept into my throat and began trying to escape my body.
"Ok, Princess, pretty please will you help me up before I die?" Hyunjin asked.
"Hmmmm, nah, ten more seconds and you make it to two minutes." I heard Hyunjin sigh and couldn't believe they were gambling with his life like this.
"Fine." He stayed dangling there for what felt like an eternity before Lix finally reached his hand down and offered him a lifeline. Hyunjin took it, and Felix lifted him back onto the beam. His bright rosy cheeks were visible in the dim light of Felix's torch and I carefully made my way over.
"You're both insane." I threw my arms around him and held him tightly. Like he was the most precious thing in the world. Because he was, to me.
"That was fun." Hyunjin placed one arm around my waist and gently squeezed me to reassure me he was OK. I hated this. I should never have agreed.
"Your turn y/nie! Unless you're too wimpy!" Felix teased. I turned and shot him a glare. I was more concerned for their safety than mine.
"I said I would do it didn't I?" I responded coolly as I pulled my body away from Jin. I laced my fingers together and cracked my knuckles before shaking my hands.
I knelt and carefully lowered myself down onto the bottom part of the beam. The swirling wind was unsettling as it whipped around me, but the view of the brilliant twinkling lights was incredible. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the craziest thing I had ever done in my life.
"OK go!" I yelled as I carefully dropped my body and clung to the beam.
"Timing!" Felix laughed with glee and I could see him and Jin kneeling. They were ready to catch me if I slipped. My muscles were already beginning to ache as I swayed slightly, and the dizzying height did nothing to comfort me. If I fell, I would die.
