The Truth and Acceptance

Y/N's Pov.

*next day*

After what happened back at Mephiles' castle, I was so relieved to be back home. Well, not exactly home. Sonic let me stay in his castle for the night because he needed me to be there the following day when he told everyone the truth. And of course, Shadow guarded me all night. Normally I would think of it as a bit too much, but he had a good reason this time so I didn't mind.
This afternoon, King Sonic gathered everyone in the town square, each from their regions. I gulped, looking at the number of Mobians there. What if they don't accept this? What if they think that this is wrong or that we might be punished for thinking an idea like this? Shadow must've noticed that I was worried, and pulled me into a hug.
"Don't worry, everything will turn out okay." he said.
"I hope so..." I said quietly. The crowd fell silent as Sonic came out.
"Here he citizens of Camelot! It is I, King Arthur, and I must make a speech for you all to tell you something of great importance." the crowd mumbled something amongst themselves before settling down again. Sonic inhaled and exhaled before continuing, "About 2 months ago, I said that I would chose a bride for myself. A princess from one of the kingdoms. But to say the truth... I was already in love with someone else!" the crowd gasped and whispered things amongst each other, but quieted down to let Sonic continue. "Let's be real here. How many of you feel in love with someone, but couldn't be with them because of the so-called 'rules?'" Many Mobians' hands were raised, "How many of you felt limited in your future because of these rules?" Several other Mobians raised their hands too, "Why must these rules exist? To balance us out, or to suppress us from what we could be? No one should have to follow any of these rules. Not anymore. As king, I'd like us to take a vote. Everyone who wants to eliminate these rules, shout it and let the whole world know it!"
"YEAH!!!!" the crowd cheered, and eventually, everyone, even the royals were saying it too.
"Then as king, I here by remove those rules in the kingdom!" Sonic stated, and the crowd roared with cheers and claps.
"Then who do you love?" A Mobian in the crowd asked, which got everyone's attention. Sonic grinned and looked at Blaze, nodding his head. Blaze nodded also and went to where Sonic was.
"Sir Percival, a knight of the table, is the one I love." Sonic took Blaze's hand in his. The crowd gasped and then remained silent. Oh please tell me that they accept it!
"All hail King Arthur and Sir Percival!" A Mobian shouted, which got my attention.
"ALL HAIL KING ARTHUR AND SIR PERCIVAL!!!" the rest of the crowd roared as well. I felt like I was going to cry tears of joy, but I managed to hold through. After Sonic had finished his speech, we all went back inside the castle. My parents were already there.
"
"Wait Sonic. Let me speak with them." I stopped him. Sonic looked at me before nodding and walking away with Blaze. I stood next to Shadow before I looking back at my parents, who had slightly wide eyes.
"Y/N? You and Lancelot?" Mother questioned. I nodded.
"Yes. There's no better choice than him." I nuzzled into his chest before looking back at my father, who was smiling.
"Well, if that's what you really want, I guess that it can't be helped." he stated. I smiled, happier than ever before.
"Thank you..." I said, hugging Shadow, who graciously returned it.
"Thank you your highnesses." Shadow said, bowing his head slightly.
"Consider it as a way for us to thank you for saving our daughter." Mother beamed, before she and Dad left the room.
"Since I'll no longer get in trouble for this-" Shadow started, pulling me into a deep kiss. I returned the kiss with just as much passion. We can be together now... and forever more.
