THE FIRST DAY

"Samharika, time to get ready for your first day" my Aunt said standing behind the door of my small messed up room filled with packages. I had just moved to a small town near New York called Pixie with my aunt Cassie, my only family remaining. We lived in India before moving here where my mother was from. But now, we came here to my father's town.

My parents died two years ago in an "accident" well, that's what the police assumed it to be. I always felt that it was something different, like there was something else involved yet unfortunately I couldn't do anything about it. I really do miss them, the beautiful Indian face of my mother with silky brown hair and the most beautiful black eyes I had ever seen. The foreign look of my father different from my mother but yet strikingly handsome and a strong muscular build up, he looked so much like aunt Cassie, his sister. After their "accident" aunt moved to india with me. We lived there for two years but now, she got a job here in her native town and a property to settle in.

Things definitely were different but I tried my best to acclimatise. I got admission in the Pixie High School and today was my first day there. I was kind of nervous and excited at the same time.
I got up from my bed and went to my closet to find a black crop top with high waist trousers, perfect for my first day. Then, I went in front of my mirror to get ready. I looked mostly like my mother, a typical olive skinned indian except for my eyes, they were brown like my father's. I let loose my dark black hair and went outside.
My aunt was waiting on the dining table with breakfast. She is an amazing woman more of my friend than my guardian. I hurried to eat the waffles she made and then walked  two streets down to my new school.

It was indeed an enormous building with multiple students entering through the main gate. I also joined the crowd and went in to see a huge ground, nothing like what was back there in India. Students were sitting, playing, making out and doing what not in that area.
I entered the main building to see a line of lockers on the sides of a hallway filled with students of all kinds. As I walked by, I could feel eyes on me which made me uncomfortable. I could also hear murmurs like "new girl" and "Indian". When suddenly a girl with short blond hair approached me.

"I am Beth" she said offering her hand for a handshake.
I took her hand and replied, "I am Samharika and I'm new here" she made a weird face on hearing my name and I could make out that she found it tough to pronounce so, I immediately added that "You can call me Sam"
she smiled at that and said, "I can give you a tour around"
I accepted the offer and we started walking. She took me through the huge building showing me all sorts of places like the gym, cafeteria, classes, laboratories, etc. We kept talking all the way through and got know each other better. She was particularly interested in the way life was in India and kept asking me about it.

The bell rang and I started going towards my class surprisingly enough, Beth was also there with me. We sat together when a teacher named Mr. Marcus entered the class. We greeted him and, then he said "I would like you all to meet a new student of our class" signalling me to come forward to introduce myself.
I went in front feeling kind of nervous and said, "hello everyone, I am Samharika...you all can call me Sam. I moved here from India with my aunt. My hobbies are reading and playing. I like playing basketball but I am not very sure about how it is played here in Pixie and I would love to learn. It is nice meeting you all." this was all I could say to a bunch of 30 random strangers as I went back to my seat.
The classes went by, me and Beth kept talking and soon we were great friends. It was lunch time so, I followed Beth to the cafeteria telling her about my school back in India when I accidentally bumped into a tall guy. I looked up and saw a muscular figure with blue eyes and curly black hair. He was kind of handsome and if felt like I had seen him before probably in my class when I snapped out of it and started apologizing while bending to pick up my fallen books.
"I am sorry, I couldn't see you" I said,
to which he replied "No worries, Sam am I right?"
"Yes I'm sam and you are?" I asked.
He handed me my books, standing back up straight and said "I am Ronan, nice to meet you basketball girl" offering his hand for a handshake along with a smirk across his face.
I took it and said with a small grin "nice to meet you too Ronan." There was an awkward silence between us when he suddenly said "Well, I am the team captain of basketball and now that you are interested in it, I would like to see you play."
I got happy with the offer "I would love to, but i need to learn it first. Would you mind teaching me?" I asked with eager eyes.
He agreed to it by saying "meet me in the central Ground after classes" and walked away.
I smiled to myself and saw Beth standing by my side smirking "what?" I asked, to which she said teasing me with a grin that "First day at school and you already have the team captain as your date"
I smiled wider at the thought and replied "Shut it Beth, it's not a date" hitting her slightly in the arm.
"Yeah yeah! sure it isn't a date" she said sarcastically making me blush a little.
