The night had passed and of course Anne had not gotten a lick of sleep. She couldn't, not just because she was all cramped and twisted up in the stairs, but also because of the anxieties the human,er,Sasha had left her with earlier that night.
Oh and yeah, she was still tied up.
By now her skin and her scales were extremely irritated by the ropes. Trying to wriggle her way out of them had proved to only make it worse. Anne would know, she had tried so very many times since she had been captured. It had only been about a night and half since then, but it was enough for her to feel like she was literally starving.
Not enough for her to eat bugs though.
The pile before her had mostly dispersed, so even if she wanted to at least try a few she couldn't.
Sigh.
This really sucked.
"Rise and shine mermaid!" The hatch was suddenly kicked open and none other than Sasha came plowing down, shouting as she stomped down the stairs. It was enough to startle Anne, so she jumped and hit her head on the top step.
"Ouch, Hey! That's the last time you hurt me!" Anne scolded.
"That wasn't my fault this time." Sasha remarked.
"Well you did scare me so technically yes. It is your fault." Anne smirked, almost playfully. She was unsure as to why she was talking with her captor like this, but it probably had something to do with what she had said last night. It had made Anne feel...bad? The way Sasha sounded when she spoke of the king and this, Marcy character, almost made her seem pitiful.
Almost.
She was still a horrifyingly brooding pirate, and it took everything in Anne not to shiver when she was near."Whatever." Sasha smiled back at Anne, "Anyways, I'm down here to make sure you don't die, I see you've eaten your bugs." She then noticed the floor was covered with creepy crawlies. Meaning that Anne, had in fact, not eaten her bugs. "Oh, nevermind then."
"Look, I'm not gonna eat them, so could you please just untie me?"
"Fine, but you have to come out from under the stairs first."
"No way." Anne spoke firmly, but her voice was shaking.
"Like I said, I'm just trying to make sure you don't die, and at this rate, you're gonna dry up." Sasha looked Anne's tail up and down, noticing that her fins had become slightly shriveled. Anne was looking at them too now, and as she realized her eyes widened with discomfort. "It's time to lose the tail." Sasha added.
"No it's scary, I'm not doing it."
"Mermaid, I'm just trying to help." Sasha argued, almost annoyed at this point.
"My name's not mermaid, it's Anne."
"Okay then Anne, come out here now. End of discussion." Sasha's harsh way of speaking only made Anne more afraid.
"No!" Anne cried and curled up deeper into the staircase. She was visibly shaking now, and Sasha couldn't understand why this was so hard for her. All she had to do was crawl out of that corner, dry herself off, and then Sasha would untie her. Easy right?
Well whatever it was brute force clearly wasn't working, it was time for a different approach.
"Hey," Sasha spoke again, softly this time, "Why don't you just give it a try. If you don't like it, it doesn't have to be for long, but I'll be here to help you and untie you, okay?"
"But you don't understand it...it's weird" Anne shuddered.
"It'll be okay, I promise."
Anne stared at her for a moment, eyes wet, before nodding and slowly shimmying her way from out beneath the stairs.
