(A/n I'll be calling decay/darkness AntiAether now and also I thought I should point out that I'll never use the excuse of the mc having a weak body to debuff him. Sure he'll face backlash from doing something stupid but her wont have his body break down mid fight. And finally the mc doesn't have any memories of his past life other than purgatory so he'll have no problems dating the young Varay.)

It's been three months since I found and healed Varay, at first I tried to find out how she got so deep in the beast glades, but gave up after I lost a thirty minute staring contest. Since then not only have I grown closer to Varay or Var as I call her but I've also been teaching her how to use her newly awakened mana core and surprisingly her learning speed can be considered genius even by my standards. Her elements are fire which was from the phoenix and surprisingly water, but after checking her core I learned that despite the fact that she's now mostly phoenix, she still has a higher affinity for water to the point where she would probably unlock ice in a few weeks.

Currency I'm trying to find what weapon best suits her, at first I thought this would be a quick process but boy was I wrong. We've tried more than twenty different types of swords, ten types of staff, and about fifteen other weapons. I walked up to her as she was swinging around a pair of short swords and asked.

"What do you think of those?"

"I don't think wielding two different weapons will work for me, but I'm pretty sure that I'd like a type of short sword."

I just sighed before taking out my own sword to practice, but it was only after a few swings that I noticed that she was staring at me or on closer inspection my sword.

"What type of sword is that?"

She asked, still staring at my weapon.

"It's a katana that was made to adapt to the mana intensity of the user, strengthening itself."

"Can I try using it?"

"Sure, I don't see why not."

I said as I threw my sword to her. She caught it mid air and unsheathed it revealing a pitch black blade with some purple and gold rune lining it. Then she proceeded to try a few swings which were far more stable than any of the ones she had made before.

Why didn't it cross my mind to let her try my sword?

I thought as I sighed at the hours of time that could have been used for something else.

"Well how does it feel?"

"I like it."

"Ok then, I'm gonna need my sword back for now, but I'll make one for you tomorrow."

She just nodded before sheathing the blade and handing it to me. And after going over my agenda one more time, I started walking towards the edge of the hell field while saying.

"Var, you can take a break. I'm gonna try an experiment with Aether and Antiaether."

My idea was combining both Antiaether and Aether the same way I had combined Antiaether and Mana to make Decay mana. To most it would seem like a simple concept as you would just have to mix the particles but sadly it wasn't so simple. First I'm not planning on just mixing the particles, I'm going to try and make an entirely new energy. The second big problem is that both energies have almost opposite properties, aether changes itself to manipulate the surrounding reality while Antiaether is about changing the surrounding to fit itself. I continued thinking about how I could merge them when my thoughts were interrupted by me bumping into something. I looked up to see Varay, her usual stoic look nowhere to be seen, as she looked at me condemingly before saying.

"You're going to get yourself almost killed again aren't you."

Come on, how dangerous could performing nuclear fusion on two of the most powerful energies ever created be... Ok on second thought that does sound bad doesn't it. Well time for plan B.

"Wow Var, you don't believe in me."

I said with a crestfallen face. She just continued to stare at me, her expression not changing in the slightest.

"You're not going to guilt trip me into letting you do something stupid again. The only way I'm letting you go is if you tell me what you are planning and how you are going to survive."

"Umm, well you see, I'm planning on making a new energy by fusing Aether and AntiAether. And as for how I'm going to stay safe, I'm just built different."

"One you sound like an idiot and two fusing those two energies without fully understanding them is like asking for death."

"Soooo?"

"Soooo, I'm not letting you go. You're coming with me because I'm sure you're tired too."

I just looked at her deadpan before saying.

"Var, I'm a dragon, I need like an hour of sleep a month."

Varay just ignored my reasoning as she brought me back to our house and forced me to become her body pillow as she suffocated me with a vice grip.

What did I do wrong?

And as if reading my mind Varay said.

"You know most boy's would pay to be in your situation."

"Most boy's would be dead in my situation, and I will too if you don't loosen up your grip."

She just pouted for a few minutes before finally falling asleep, loosening her grip as she did. Using her loosened grip I escaped her grasp and sat up.

Why do I suddenly feel tired?

I asked mentally before looking at the sleeping Varay. Despite what I may say, Varay could be considered a world class beauty, she had white silky hair and gray eyes that, despite her lack of expression, seemed to hold a world of emotion.

Maybe I should take a nap.

I thought before laying down next to her and falling asleep.

Varay pov

A warm and refreshing feeling overcame me as I stirred awake, and I opened my unfocused eyes.

I wonder what I'll be doing toda-

My thoughts halted as I saw Luci sleeping next to me. Although I was used to falling asleep when he was near me he was usually gone by the time I woke up, but what really shocked me was that he was sleeping so soundly. Since he needed very little sleep I had never seen him sleeping, but what surprised me the most was how he radiated a peaceful aura that calmed not only myself but the mana around him that flowed in a rhythmic state.

Looking at my sleeping friend I moved my face closer to his and thought.

Cute.

Almost immediately after that I felt my face burn red, but despite that I didn't move my head away.

What am I thinking? Luci is my friend nothing more... I think.

As my chaotic thoughts started to calm his eyes shot open and locked on to me who was only a few inches from his face.

"Hmm, good morning?"
