DON'T EVEN BOTHER TRYING, is what Amani Shah exuded to everyone. Born to a world renowned designer, Inayah Shah, he was handed everything he ever wanted. Guilded in jewels and embraced in gold, he was the embodiment of a child of the elite despite rarely being in limelight. It was also the reasoning his teachers thought of, when they told his mother of his acts at school.  They complained about his sleeping, his disturbances when he was awake, his lack of care in everything, the list went on. It was why he had jumped between schools and places within the country and he felt Yancy would be no different.

"What was the reason?" People have asked him: teachers, his parents, classmates. Despite asking they had long formed their own conclusion. "Amani Shah didn't care. He lacks effort, lacks motivation, and he's the worst student any teacher could get." A teacher had said once to the Principal in a meeting between the three of them.

It was fifth period, he should've been in English or something, but he was called to the Principal's office. The principal hummed, but only gave superficial words before the meeting was dismissed. He saw  the disappointment on the teacher's face. Amani often wondered why this teacher tried so hard when he barely even knew her name, but he quickly stopped after the teacher soon ignored him a few months later.

Amani Shah had no interest. His only goal was to wait for this year to end and await the news of another transfer. However, on the day of that forsaken trip to the Museum had made him interested in something. The boy named Percy Jackson. The one he had ignored for months in Detention and would fight the urge to roll his eyes, if his name was ever called, from those lips of his.

It wasn't easy to ignore Percy after that mess of a trip and with the way that everyone seemed to look at Percy when he would reference a Math teacher named Mrs Dodds. They looked at him as if he were a psycho, someone who needed a check with the doctor, a freak. He watched in amusement with how he frowned at the looks and how his best friend, Grover, would play along yet did such a shitty job.

What was annoying though was that Grover seemed to have grown an interest in him. How fucking annoying, he thought as he glanced at the boy who blabbered. Percy sat on the other side of Grover, seeming to listen to whatever Grover talked about while he didn't say anything and only nodded with half open eyes and yawned. Both Grover and Percy did the same and when Grover did he looked at him strangely.

The only good thing Grover brought him was a reason for Percy and him to talk more. With Amani always sleeping and Percy focused on his things it brought very little effort for the two to talk. However, with the Mrs Dodds incident it changed as Grover began to talk to him and Percy seemed to want to bring back his first day obsession of getting along with him. This time, Amani didn't care as much and even replied back sometimes.

He also noticed Percy seemed to act worse since the incident, making Amani stare at the boy who he only used to see getting kicked out of the classroom once or twice a week to almost everyday. Compared to Percy's behavior change, he did not act any differently getting the same detentions. The 'new' teacher Mrs Kerr, had begun to get on his nerves. She had decided to set him up with another student and even worse that student seemed to be too much of a teacher's pet.

Any and every time he would let his head fall into his arms on the table to sleep he would get a sensation of poking dealt by no other than his fucking desk mate. Mrs Kerr also seemingly didn't give a shit about him, having known the type of student he was from staff members, and ignored any and all requests for a seat change. While he normally shot a glare and then stared at the walls, he was really beginning to lose his mind more than he already has.
