"Luke, can you come to mine tonight?" You said, smiling at him sweetly.
"Oh. Yeah." He said, not even looking at you and carrying on doing his assignment which was due in two weeks. Luke's reply seemed a little...lukewarm, let's say, and wasn't what you had expected.
You were at school, so you didn't wrap your arms around him, but you did lean into his shoulder.
"I mean, you don't have to come, but it's Friday, and I'd really like to grab a pizza or something. But only if-"
"I said okay!" He replied. You pulled away from his warmth, surprised and hurt.
"Right. I better go then." You swung your bag over your shoulder and stalked out of the library, not looking back. "Maybe he'd just had a bad day," you told yourself. "Maybe he was tired, or just wanted to finish the essay. Or maybe...I'm not annoying, am I?"

You texted Luke asking him to come at seven, with one more kiss than usual at the end, and went to get changed. This bit was crucial, because Luke always loved the clothes you wore, and if he was in a bad mood you hoped this would cheer him up.
Like always, the whole wardrobe was pulled out on the bed with you standing in front of it before you could choose an outfit.
You wanted something bright, because that would make him feel better hopefully. You eventually picked a sun yellow dress, a dark blue cardigan and a flower crown, because the day had been warm and you felt quite summery.
You applied mascara, pale pink lip gloss and blusher, before picking up your phone and dialling the number for the nearest Domino's. You had it on speed dial for exactly this reason. You ordered Luke's favourite, Hawaiian, (I don't actually know guys just bear with me) and waited for him to arrive.
It was quarter past seven when you heard a knock on the door. He was normally on time, and it was unusual for him to be late, but you decided to forget about it because it didn't really matter.
"Luke!" You said cheerily. You hugged him tight. He was wearing black skinny jeans a a t-shirt depicting some kind of band he liked. "Why did he always look so good?" You thought to yourself.
"You look very nice." He said. "Can I come in?"
"Oh yeah, of course." As he slipped in past you he smiled and kissed you on the cheek.
You put your hand where his lips had touched you and smiled. "It's all okay," you thought.
You went through to the living room and saw he rifling through all your films. You grinned.
"I don't mind which you pick, as long as it's a good one."
Luke looked round at you, smirked, and said,"Of course it will be good. I only pick good films."
He kept the disk hidden as he put it in the DVD player, and came back to sit with you.
You fast forwarded through all the trailers at the start, and you had your head rested in the crook of Luke's arm. He held you tighter just as the title screen flashed up.
"Annabel." You said. "Why did you pick Annabel? I hate horror movies. You know that, Luke."
"I can look after you." He said, but he still pressed pause.
"Not when I get nightmares for weeks after." You said stoutly.
"You know it's not real, Y/N." Luke hovered his finger over the play button.
"Just because it's not real doesn't make it not scary." You were both speaking in short sentences, and you still felt horrified that he'd chosen what he did. "Can you change it?"
