A/N: sorry for not posting in a long time, I've had exams for about a month. This chapter is longer than most (1200 words) so I hope that makes up for it. Hope you enjoy!

Heather listened as Gwen and Courtney told her all about their latest date. They were in the gym along with the other students who had their permission slips signed. Heather couldn't pay very much attention, she was looking over at a boy and girl talking on a sleeping bag.

The girl, Heather couldn't remember her name, gently pushed Alejandro's shoulder. Her hand lingered and Heather felt rage pool inside her.

"Girl, you need to stop," Courtney said, pulling her away from her jealousy. "Gwen and I will stop talking about our dates, it's fine. Tonight is about you." Heather smiled at the support.

"Oh my gosh did you guys hear about the freshman girl who got pregnant?" Bridgette looked up from her phone to tell them the gossip. Suddenly, the night was getting a lot better.

Cody was on his back as he flipped through the pages of a comic book. Noah sat next to him and read, Owen and Izzy were being crazy, and Eva was trying to get them to calm down. Cody looked over, eyes focusing on Noah.

"Stop staring." He looked back at the comic, embarrassed that Noah caught him staring.

"Okay, students, it is time for the annual Gophers v.s Bass game! If I call your name, you are the Gophers. You must capture the Bass and bring them back into the gym. Bass, if you can bring Chef Hatchet's hat, hidden somewhere in the school, back here in two hours you win. The Gophers are..." Principal McLean announced the names before pulling out a large timer. The kids got up and had 20 minutes to run before the game started.

Team E-Scope, Owen, and Cody began running toward the ELA (English language arts) wing of the first floor, but Cody was trailing behind. He wasn't fast enough to catch up and lost the group. He turned left and found himself in the stairway.

Footsteps began making their way down. He looked up, not knowing what his next move would be.

"Oh, it's you," Heather came into view on the stairs and Cody let out a sigh of relief. "You can walk with me, I have gossip." Cody smiled and joined her happily.

"OMG, so you kissed him?!" She covered his mouth, he was being too loud and someone would hear, but he didn't care.

Heather narrowed her eyes, "Shut up, Cody! And you almost kissed Noah, so you cannot judge me."

"I wasn't judging, I'm happy for you! Oh my god, wait, did you hear about the freshman girl?"

"Uh, duh!" Footsteps came running up the hall. They ducked into the art classroom and stayed silent. Some freshman Gopher ran past without sparing a glance, amateur. They breathed out a sigh of relief before they continued talking shit about people.

Noah, Izzy, and Eva ran through the third floor. They lost Owen to the Gophers near the math rooms in the second floor. Cody was gone. Noah stopped to breathe, the others stopping too.

"There's nowhere to go," Eva said. She was right, the third floor only had two stairways and surely they had Gophers standing guard.

Izzy jumped up, "We could go in the vent!" Noah and Eva look at each other. Eva looks up, then shrugs. Noah looks up, it's about 14 feet up. They all share a look before Eva reaches her hand out to Noah.

He climbs onto her shoulders and Izzy soon follows. She stands up and takes the vent off, she hands it to Noah before standing on his shoulders and climbing in. There's a small thud while she gets situated, but soon she sticks her arms out and grabs Noah. Soon after comes Eva. The three of them maneuver through the vents, keeping quiet whenever someone rushes by.

They make it to the second floor and see someone familiar. Cody is walking just in front of someone. Noah makes a small noise to alert Cody and Heather where they are and the pair look up. Noah takes off the vent and lowers his head so he's looking down on them.

"Here, come with us. We can use this all the way to Chef's hat." Izzy and Eva take him by the ankles and slowly lower him. Cody takes his hands.

"Oh, this is like that one time when I was sailing around Africa and like I got stuck in the boat's cabin so I had to climb out a window. And like, my friend Steve was there so I was helping him out too. I accidentally dropped him overboard and never knew what happened to him, but I think he like washed up somewhere in Europe." They shushed her.

"Hey, who's– what the fuck?" Some Gopher came running up to see, but stopped short when he saw whatever nonsense was happening. Amid the commotion, Izzy got a little startled and Noah started to slip. Izzy grabbed on, but she was too late. All four of them landed in a pile in front of Heather. The Gopher marched them all back to the gym where they sat in defeat with Owen, Courtney, Gwen, Tyler, and Lindsey.

Trent walked with the Drama Brothers, minus Cody, but Harold got captured early on. Then it was just him and Justin wandering the halls. They ran through the theater room, the thumping of a senior Gopher's feet behind them. They didn't see who it was, but it was probably Duncan. They ducked behind seats, hoping he would turn back.

"Over here," Justin said, he crouched and took Trent's hand, leading them to the curtain. They made little noise as the steps receded and faded completely.

Trent chuckled, "Thanks, man, you saved my ass."

Justin shook his head, "Hey, us Drama Brothers stick together." The gentle laughing subsided and the two gazed at each other. Trent almost thought of the moment as romantic, but he stopped himself. He just took it all in. Even if he did have a crush on his straight friend, he could still enjoy the little moments.

However, something white caught his eye. "Is that Chef's hat?!" Justin's eyes followed his to the hat sitting on the costumes chest. Trent ran over and picked it up. "Let's go!" They cautiously ran through the theater room and out the doors.

"They have the hat, get 'em!" Someone shouted from the hallway. The boys ran faster than they knew they could. Trent saw the gym, maybe a half a mile away. The other students were catching up.

"I'll keep them busy, get the hat to the gym." Trent barely had time to question when Justin gave him a light push and stopped completely. Justin had his arms outstretched, the kids stopped in confusion before tagging him and walking him back.

Trent pushed through the doors of the gym, Chef's hat high in the air, and heard the cheers of his fellow students. He ran up and hugged Justin.

"My hero."

"I kinda like the sound of that," he grinned.
