Victor had long since come back from locking gavin away. he met up with Lucien, whose face was covered in a thin layer of sweat, a frown tugging at his lips as he pushed a branding iron into a bucket of water.
behind him, River was tieing the now burnt shut wounds on Y/ns arm. she hadnt regained her counciousness, and probably wouldnt for the night. there were also two jars, each filled with thick, warm red liquid.
"these will be for Gavin for the next couple of days. i dont want him around her again." Lucien said.
victor nodded, pushing past him and laying eyes on the sleeping girl. against his will, his heart skipped slightly. her lips were parted slightly, the moonlight hit her face and made her look ethereal. dark circles were under her eyes her lips had lost color.
with a hesitant hand, he brushed his fingertips up against her palm. he didnt know why he was so mean. he just felt so... flustered. none of the others were ever so bold as to outright refuse him. was it exciting to have someone disobey so plainly?
"you need to leave her alone." lucien said quietly.
his normally pleasant expression was replaced with a frown.
"i-"
"i told you not to do something like that and you went against me. she wouldnt be like this if you hadnt cut her in front of Gavin. you know he cannot refuse himself." lucien scolded.
victor glared at him.
"i wasnt thinking. and if she wasnt so difficult-"
"you could try being kinder to her. we cannot afford another mistake like last time. you get so caught up in your own piss and vinegar attitude that you cant pause and stop yourself from doing something you regret." lucien continued.
images flashed in victor head, his eyes closing as he whinced. the last girl, her face covered in her own blood. victors hands sticky and tacky, her throat torn out.
he bit back the feeling of guilt.
"im trying lucien."
"try harder."
with that, Lucien walked out. his hands were caked with blood. the smell was making both of them hungry.
VIctor sat down. the bed dipping slightly underneath him. she looked so pretty like this. covered in moonlight. peacefully asleep.
a feeling, one he had never had in his life, stirred ominously in his chest.
he looked away, his hand finding its way to entangle in her own, squeezing gently.
River came in, taking a quick note of the situation before walking over to him.
"Master VIctor, if i may say so... shes frightened. terribly frightened. your not making it better by berating her or forcing her to do terrible things." she said quietly.
victor stared at her silently. of course he knew that. he wasnt such a horrible man that he forgot how to treat a lady.
he just... didnt know how.
"bring a bouquet of roses and drop them by her door in the morning." victor said quietly.
his thumb rubbed a small circle on her clean wrist, before he stood up and walked out the door.
"goodnight sir."
he was silent when he left, burying down the shame he felt with treating her so badly. victor hated the fact he actually still care for humans. they were food. livestock.
