In front of a bonfire, on top of a mountain, a couple sat with their friend, and a very ominous red book.
They were far away from the city, and all of the villages, as a precaution. Nobody could be too sure of what would happen.
The future wife sat on the opposite side of fire, wrapped in a blanket, away from the future husband. For her "safety", they said. She would never admit it, but she was scared.
The future husband sat staring at the ground, afraid of what would come in the next moments.
The friend stood near Bucky Barnes, waiting for Alessia Romanoff to give her the signal to commence the test. The most important test.
Giving her future husband one last glance, Alessia nodded to Ayo, who nodded back.
"It is time." Ayo spoke, opening the book.
Bucky looked at his future wife with a blank stare. "You sure about this?" He asked, in a steady voice.
Ayo was prepared for this question. "Neither I, nor Alessia will let you hurt anyone." She promised.
The Dora Milaje soldier started slowly circling the fire, starting the process.
"Желание, (Longing) Ржавый, (Rusted) Семнадцать" (Seventeen) Ayo started off slowly, waiting for any indication that Bucky wasn't okay.
Shaking his head, Bucky spoke. "It's not gonna work." He said.
Alessia wanted nothing more than to hug him, or at least offer him some reassurance, but she couldn't do either. It would ruin the process. All she could do was stare at him.
Ayo continued, not even batting an eyelash. "Рассвет," (Daybreak)
Bucky's body started shaking as the words were spoken, and memories flashed through his mind. Memories of Karpov, of the mind wiping chair.
"Печь," (Furnace) Ayo spoke.
Memories of hurting Steve, of Alessia in the cell next to his.
"Девять," (Nine)
Memories of every time he killed someone. Memories of the Stark's murders. All of Bucky's walls crumbled, and he still tried to stay strong.
"Добросердечный," (Benign)
Memories of him and Steve fighting in Washington. Memories of nearly killing Alessia in her home.
"Возвращение на Родину," (Homecoming) It appeared that Ayo had more faith in Bucky than he had in himself, because she remained stoic and calm, fully trusting him.
"Один," (One)
Bucky gave up trying to remain strong, and he let it all out. All of his pent up emotions and guilt rolled off his body in the form of tears. Alessia was on the verge of tears at the sight, but she couldn't get emotional. Bucky needed her.
