20: Mayhem in the meadow.

Sitting on her desk, Y/N was looking intently at the computer screens. She was focused on a set of confidential information she had acquired from a secret source. Things weren't adding up. The time after her father's death and the time she spent lamenting, there have been discrepancies done in the company, she understood that from the audit of the finances. But what she did not understand was the involvement of a person she had started to doubt. From her periphery, she saw Jiyong talking to Jin and both of them walking toward her. Swiftly, she saved and closed the tab. Taking the pen drive out of the laptop she swiftly hid it in a hidden compartment under the desk. By then Jiyong was talking to Jungkook who was sitting outside in Jin's cabin talking to staff learning more about a computer program he heard from them. Y/N was watching this without making it noticeable.
Locking the compartment she slid the key inwards and clipped it on her pendant. Then she acted like she was focused on something on the laptop. Jiyong entered her office and looked at her working intently. He cleared his throat to gain attention. "The interview is about to begin. You'd like to join?" He asked with a smile. "Of course!" Said Y/N. Standing up, she took her bag and some important files. She exited the cabin followed by Jin and Jiyong. Talking to Jungkook, She looked inside her office. "Expected," she thought to herself and smirked mentally.
After the interview was over, Y/N looked around to see Jiyong talking to an employee and discreetly looking at her. She faked tiredness and went to Jungkook. "Kook!" She called him. "Wanna go have lunch?" She asked. Jungkook nodded with wide eyes. Y/N smiled. "Let's go then. I have a meeting after 5 pm. Let's have some fun till then!" She said ruffling his hair. "Okay, noona!" Jungkook said practically bouncing on the balls of his heels. "Let's go and call Jin!" She said and guided him outside.
Calling Jin from his cabin, the three of them headed out. Soobin and Beomgyu followed them. Getting in the car, Y/N smacked her head. "Guys, I am sorry, could you wait a minute? I had to give a pen drive to the head of the marketing department. It won't be long!" She said apologetically. "It's okay. I'll go with you!" Said Soobin. "No, it's fine. I'll be back in 5. Wait in the car." She said and got out. Soobin wanted to protest, but seeing as they were outside the building entrance, and he can see Y/N, he did not resist.
As she promised, she was back in 5 minutes. Getting in the car, Y/N started it. "Let's go to a place, I used to go to very often," she said. Driving through the highway, she took an offbeat path down it. It was a paved single Lane Road with large sycamore and junipers on either side. Small bushes of wild strawberry and poison ivy made the lower part of the forest look denser. After driving for about 20 minutes, she turned to a trail that can only let one car pass at a time. The road was bumpy and the SUV she was driving jerked quite a lot. The trees made a rustling noise around them. Turning into an empty clearing, she parked the car at the entrance of a hiking trail. All five of them got out and Y/N took the bento packed by Namjoon out of the car. "Let's go. It is a 15 minutes hike" she said. There were two other cars in the almost empty lot. A beat-up blue sedan and another white SUV like them, but a bit older.
Walking through the trail, Jungkook took quite some photos with his cell phone. Soobin and Beomgyu were talking among themselves while Jin had transformed into his hybrid form and was flying and jumping on branches.
At the trailhead, they reached a clearing at the cliffside. Y/N walked ahead and sat on a boulder, shaped like an irregular rectangle. Mother nature rarely forms straight lines, so it was either eroded or broken down by hikers or by forest rangers. The guys stood behind her. Jin transformed into his human form and took out a blanket from the bag he was carrying. He and Soobin laid it out and The others joined them in laying out the food and drinks.
"Let's eat!" Said Y/N. Digging into the amazing egg rolls and gimbaps, everyone was amazed by the taste. Y/N made a mental more to bring back Namjoon a copy of his recent favourite author's recent most release while going home. "I used to come here every alternate weekend with my sister and brother," Y/N said reminiscing the memories of her sibling. "I and Sujin would sit here on this rock, talking about life and boys and everything. Heejun used to play with his remote control cars here. He would attach those go-pro cameras on them and record videos on the trail. He once recorded a couple having sex inside the woods. It was so weird!" Said Y/N giggling. The boys giggled at the thought of the young boy watching that video. "Dad had to explain to him that day storks don't bring babies," said Y/N laughing. The others laughed with her.
Taking a bite from the pork cutlet and a spoon of curry rice, Y/N closed her eyes and let the flavours of the delicious food tingle her senses. She loved the combination of pork cutlet and curry rice since childhood. Whenever she used to catch a cold, her mom made the dish because everything else tasted bland and flavourless. Her mother used to make the curry a little spicier for her to clear the blocked sinuses. "Namjoon is a godsend!" Soobin said as if reading her mind. "He and Hoseok have magic hands in cooking!" Said Y/N. "Honestly, I never knew this fact" she admitted taking a bit from the pork cutlet Jungkook offered her. To him, her pleased and blissful expressions were enough to give up a piece of his favourite food. He felt warm and fuzzy when Y/N kissed his cheek as a thank you. "Huh! You say so because you haven't tasted the kimchi-jjigae or Samgyeopsal I make. Not to mention the bi bim-guksu I made last week was scarfed down by everyone!" Jin said feigning an annoyance. Y/N laughed. "I love your cooking too Jinnie! You are the best!" She said showing him two thumbs up. Jin smiled searching his head while his ears turned red from shyness.

The peaceful outing was suddenly interrupted by distant gunfire. Everyone got alert. Jungkook sniffed and widened his eyes. "H-Hunters!" He said. Y/N, Soobin and Beomgyu sprang into action. They packed the lunch boxes and the mat. Y/N fished out two bucket hats from her bag. "Here! was this! This will hide your ears." She said passing the hats to Jin and Jungkook. They swiftly started to move through the trail they came from. The gunfire was coming near. Jin and Jungkook huddled in the middle with Y/N behind them while Soobin was in the front and Beomgyu behind Y/N. They walked swiftly and quickly as the sound of wild dogs and gunfire neared them. Just as they were about to turn the final turn to the parking space, a racoon shot out of the forest in front of Soobin followed by two men with guns. Soobin and Beomgyu kept a hand on their holsters and stopped. Y/N fished out three bottles of pepper spray from her bag. Passing one each to Jin and Jungkook, she held the bottle tightly. The two men with the guns turned to the group. Suddenly, three more men came out of the woods with a large hunting dog on a leash. The dog turned to the group and started to snarl. One of the men smirked. " Ya have hybrids with ya!" He said in a thick accent. "No," said Soobin sternly. "So why'd that fella be wearin' a hat? Ain't sunny much 'bout now" he said in a cocky tone pointing towards Jin and Jungkook. "I bought them for camping day. So we wore it even if it isn't sunny" said Jin with confidence. Another one of the men gave a toothy grin. " y'all got a cute brunette chick ey?" He said looking towards Y/N. "Yeah so?" Asked Soobin. "Sayin' man! Just sayin'. Cute ey? Ya single missy?" He asked Y/N with a wink. "She is my girlfriend!" Said Jungkook hiding her behind him. The man snorted. Soobin started walking again and passed the men followed by Jin, Jungkook, Y/N and Beomgyu. Jungkook and Jin were shielding Y/N the whole time. Reaching the parking they near about threw themselves inside the car and peeled out of there.

They opted to go home than to the office. Y/N took a different path to reach home. The moment they reached home they ran inside the house and locked the door. Y/N parked the car in the garage and locked the garage door. They went inside and locked every window in the house. The other hybrids in the house were surprised but helped them nonetheless. After everything, they sat in the living room silently. "This wasn't a coincidence," said Y/N. "How do you know?" Asked Jin. "Think about it. The one day out of so many days we go out to have some relaxed time, we face the hunters? This was planned. Someone is informing them. Or someone is spying on us" said Y/N. "I think that your taking over the company and the hunters coming back may be related somehow," said Beomgyu. "Janet Kim!" Y/N and Beomgyu said in unison. "That bitch! I knew something was up when she stopped showing her ugly ass face in the company suddenly" she said. Nodding her head Y/N pushed her hair back and balanced her forehead on her hands. She picked up her phone and got up and called someone. "Hey, I need some help," she said.
