a bit of backstory...

Before he met Zeppo on that unusual day at the coffee shop, the writer's life had been teetering on the edge of total disaster... a disaster that was just narrowly avoided.

The Writer, by happenstance, was living in his step-father's "abandoned bachelor pad". His mother had forced the situation after years of debate- "Let the black sheep of the family live there", she had reportedly said, "or sell the place off.  One of the two, or it's over." The finality in her voice was palpable.

It was an ultimatum of existential proportions.

The 'step-monster' had obliged begrudgingly, and only after being bribed a little with a final adventurous weekend at the long-neglected 3 bedroom condo. That's what he and his wife called running off somewhere to have kinky sex.

The Writer himself oppose the idea... (the housing arrangements, not the kinky sex... though he preferred not to contemplate that part of his mother's personal life at all) but also could not say no to the plan.

He could not say no to his own mother, no matter how estranged they might have become.

And so, saved from complete and utter life disaster, The Writer had been meekly, quietly, humbly living out his days in his step-father's original apartment, focusing his time and energy on breaking down the invisible wall of writer's block which had been plaguing him for nearly a decade.

He felt he had been making slow, minute, arduous progress...
That is until the day he first met Zeppo.

That day turned everything inside out.
