Who is Lockwood, Ingersoll?
Lockwood, Ingersoll was a real historical figure, an American lawyer and politician who lived from 1841 to 1918. He is best known for his advocacy for civil service reform and his opposition to imperialism and trusts, as well as his unsuccessful campaign for President of the United States in 1892 as the nominee of the National Democratic Party.
Lockwood was born in New York and educated at Yale University and Albany Law School. He practiced law in Buffalo, New York, before entering politics as a member of the Republican Party. He served in Congress as a representative from New York from 1887 to 1891, where he championed civil service reform and worked to limit the power of monopolies and trusts.
