Dark Night (Book 3)

Chapter 1

Night gets up from the dusty floor and wraps her tail around her paws.

This is going to get interesting.

Night watches a light orange she cat emerge from the den in front of her. That must be Sunstar, their leader.

"Sunstar! Silverstone is missing!" Screeches Goldheart once again.

Cats start emerging from their nests from all the commotion.

"Can't a cat get any sleep around here?" Growls muscular gray tom

"Silverstone went missing, Stormclaw!" Meows Goldheart.

"Missing?" Echoes Sunstar.

"Yes, missing. She was here next to me one minute, but the next she just.. Just vanished. She couldn't have gone out of camp.." Goldheart trails off

"Was she sick?" I interrupt. Blaze shoots me a don't you dare look.

"Why would you care?" Retorts Goldheart.

"Yeah, and besides, who are you?" Stormclaw jumps in.

"I'm Night, and that dark ginger tom is my brother." I say, pointing to Blaze with my tail.

"Why are there a couple of pathetic rouges here?" Stormclaw growls.

"Pathetic?! I'll show you who's pathetic.." I hiss and lunge myself at him.

He claws my face just after I left a scar on his cheek.

"This little kitty thinks she's so tough." Stormclaw says.

"Hey you leave her alone before I rip your throat out!" yells Blaze.

"Everyone stop it! Stormclaw, go see Silver- oh right, she's missing. See if her apprentice, Mistpaw, can help with that scratch. As for you, Night, stay here because we need to talk." Meows Sunstar.

Stormclaw mutters something under his breath and he stalks off into a herb- smelling den.

Goldheart turns to me. "Yes, she was sick. Like most other cats in our clan. But not just this clan, but the other three as well. But I don't understand why, or how she disappeared!"

Blaze gives a warning hiss, telling me to shut up. But I don't listen.

"So Silverstone is missing and she's sick. Well, the same thing happened to my mother. I don't know why, or how, but Blaze and I have been searching for her and we won't stop until we find her." I meow.

"Approach the silver circle that brightens up the darkness, and you will find what you've been seeking. It resides where light is hidden beneath the darkness that spreads beyond where no cat has gone before."

Those words again! What does it mean and why am I keep on hearing this..?

"Sunstar, maybe you should invite these two into our clan. They may know more about this situation than we do!" Goldheart meows.

Wait what?

"I see your point, Goldheart. Night, Blaze, do you wish to be part of this clan?"

"Can we.. Think about-"

"Yes of course we'll join!" Interrupts Blaze.

I guess I don't have a say in this

"Very well."

"Blaze!" I hiss. "What are you doing?"

"Well, since little miss big mouth told Goldheart about mom, we have to stay. But maybe we can trick them into helping us find mom, then, we can leave and live our own lives." Blaze whispers.

"Actually.. Not a bad idea!" I meow back.

"All cats old enough to hunt for their own prey gather around high rock!" Announces Sunstar.

I follow the other cats under a tall rock where Sunstar is standing. I feel cats staring at me. I shift in my spot but eventually settle myself down next to Blaze and a black she cat.

"Hi! I'm Shimmerpelt." The black cat says.

"Uh. Hi. " I meow back.

Well she's awfully excited.

"We have two rouges who would like to join our clan. Blaze, Night, please step forward." Meows Sunstar.

I follow Blaze up the rock next to Sunstar.

"Do you two promise to uphold the warrior code and keep your belief in Starclan?" She meows.

Starclan? Is that what that place was? And what's the warrior code?

"Oh, I'm sorry. You don't know what I'm talking about do you? Well, I'll leave all the teaching to your mentors. Blaze, from this day forward you shall be known as Blazepaw. Your mentor will be Goldheart."

Goldheart steps forward and touches noses with Blaze, apparently Blazepaw now.

"Night, from this day on you will be known as Nightpaw. Your mentor will be Stormclaw."

Oh great...

I grudgingly touch noses with Stormclaw.

The other cats chant our names.

It's time to start our new life...
