Except for the Newt, the four frogs of Crossy Road have been there since the start, and they're all pretty much the same. All of these characters are unlockable with the prize machine. They all share the same terrain, and there's nothing much to them, so let's run down them real quick.
The newt, as I said, is the newest addition to this category. It is unclear when this mascot was added. The newt is relatively small. It has a dark purplish-brown top, and an orange bottom. It has yellow eyes and a relatively cute nose, just like a real-life newt. As the newt traverses the terrain, it only makes a flapping sound, and it's tail switches from left to right. The newt itself is completely silent, while playing and during death. When the newt dies, nothing happens. This character is not a secret character, nor is it a character found in mystery boxes. This character can be unlocked from the prize machine or paid for with money.
The tree frog is the first frog of a set of four frogs in the game. It is a completely green frog, with a darker green stripe on its back. It's about the same design as a real-life tree frog. As the tree frog traverses the terrain, it occasionally ribbits, and it's ribbit is not too high-pitched or not too low-pitched, and it's not too fast or not too slow. When the tree frog dies, it makes no sound and nothing happens. This character is not a secret character, nor is it a character found in mystery boxes. This character can be unlocked from the prize machine or paid for with money.
The swamp frog is the second of the four frogs. It is a cyan blue frog with a yellow stripe on its back. After the tree frog, the developers just went ham with coloring these frogs, and it's clear they didn't do a half-assed job. They put they all into it. Shows that in real life, the rest of these frogs are a dull brown, nothing exciting. Anyways, as the swamp frog traverses the terrain, it also ribbits. The swamp frog's ribbit is the slowest and the lowest-pitched of the four frogs. When the swamp frog dies, it makes no sound and nothing happens. This character is not a secret character, nor is it a character found in mystery boxes. This character can be unlocked from the prize machine or paid for with money.
The desert frog is the third of the four frogs. It is a purple frog with a yellow stripe on its back. As the desert frog traverses the terrain, it ribbits too. These ribbits are higher-pitched and faster than the tree frog and swamp frog. When the desert frog dies, it makes no sound and nothing happens. This character is not a secret character, nor is it a character found in mystery boxes. This character can be unlocked from the prize machine or paid for with money.
The jungle frog is the fourth and final frog, and the final character in this category. The developers were off with this one, as the jungle frog in real life is green, although with red eyes. It is a red frog with a yellow stripe on its back. As the jungle frog traverses the terrain, it ribbits too. These ribbits are the fastest and the highest-pitched of the four frogs, and I thought the desert frog's took this medal when I first played with it...but nope. When the jungle frog dies, it makes no sound and nothing happens. This character is not a secret character, nor is it a character found in mystery boxes. This character can be unlocked from the prize machine or paid for with money.
With all of the amphibians cleared, let's move on to the felines of the game.
