(Ayo we got a part 2 up in here)
You went back to the deck after checking on everything in cryo. You didn't see Celci or Mark anywhere, but you didn't have time to worry about it. The computer decided to update, which means all the ships functions (the ones that aren't strictly necessary) are shut off. You couldn't record the tasks for the day. You couldn't track the status of the rooms or the status of the colonists. You groaned and got over the emergency loud speaker.

"Attention everyone, The Invincible II is undergoing a software update. I need everyone to go to their assigned stations immediately. Please only leave your stations unless absolutely necessary or you are told otherwise. Thank you."

You hung up the mic and walked over to the center console. You sat on the floor and leaned against the console. You had totally forgotten about Mark until you heard the side door to the deck open. You looked up to see the head engineer. He waved and sat down beside you. He sighed and stretched his legs, leaning against the console beside you.

"So uh...Captain," Mark began timidly, "I apologized to Celci. You were right. She actually apologized before I did. So uh...thanks."

You smiled at him. You were proud of Mark. Sometimes his ego is bigger than his brain. It was sometimes hard for Mark to apologize because he's so damn stubborn. He thinks he's always in the right. He's much better now than he used to be, but sometimes you have to tie him back down to earth. If you're being honest, you like the ego. You think his confidence is attractive, admirable even. You know logically having an ego in his position is problematic, but you can't help to find it attractive. You love hearing him boast about how he built the ship and how well it was made. He's over exaggerating how well the ship is built. You know that. The crew knows that. You're sure Chica knows that. There's just something so enticing about it.

You were ripped from your thoughts when Mark took a sharp breath in. "I wonder why the computer decided to update today..." The way Mark said this seemed off. It was breathy. It was like he said it just to be saying something, or he was saying it to cover up the fact that he wanted to say something else.
"I'm not sure. Maybe it's a good thing that it did?" You said sheepishly, smiling at him once more.
"I was thinking the same thing." Mark admitted, "I was about to look for an excuse to stop working...if I'm being honest." He mumbled that last part. So that's what he wanted to say. He didn't actually care about why the system updated. Okay, well, maybe he did, but that's not the point. You didn't wanna jump to conclusions, but your heart wanted to tell you that he wanted to spend time with you.
Why would he want to get off of work so badly anyways? Usually he's happy to be working, he says doing nothing is boring.

Mark cut off your thought, "We've been working so hard lately...I'm tired. For once I just wanna do nothing. Ya know, Captain?"
Was he reading your thoughts? It was almost like he read the very text that asked, Why would he want to get off of work so badly anyways?
Blink twice it you're reading my mind right now.
Mark didn't blink twice.
Well now don't you feel stupid?
"Captain? Are you alright? You're really deep in thought. You're also staring at me. Not that I mind! I just...uh..."
You felt your face heat up really fast. Damn it (Y/N), you keep embarrassing yourself today.
"Sorry Mark. I'm just thinking a billion thoughts at once."
"I can tell. You don't need to worry about anything, the ship has tons of backup servers so that it can function without the computer system."
You sighed and looked away, burying your head in your arms. You were embarrassed.
"Unless...it's not about the ship?"
You felt him scoot closer, it wasn't subtle. He wasn't trying to be subtle. You felt like you were gonna explode. You were sweaty and nervous. Your stomach was slightly upset too. You had the genius idea to look up at him. Slowly, you lifted your head up to look at him. He wasn't looking at you. He had his eyes closed and his head tilted back against the center console.
