I did It, finally. ReneeDarkson101

This one is for you!

It was just another late-night party at Mark's mansion. The atmosphere was light and fun. Mark was playing cards with William and Abe. You sat and watched for a long time. Sipping on your third glass of wine, you watched as William threw his second to last card down.

"Uno!" He yelled.

"Colonel, we're playing poker," Abe said to him for the third time tonight.

The Colonel just laughed heartily as Mark stood from his chair and stretched.

"I think that's enough for now," Mark stated, "I think it's time for a snack break."

Abe grumbled as he tossed his stack of cards on the table. He glanced over at you and smiled. You smiled back as he stood. He walked slowly over to you and sat down.

"Crazy bastards," He laughed, "I have no idea how many times Mark has taken a snack break tonight."

You chuckled and took a sip of wine, "It's his fifth."

Abe looked at you curiously, "How long have you been watching us play?"

"Uh, a while now..." You said slightly embarrassed.

To be honest, things just got too loud out in the lobby. You were really sick of the guests pushing you around. You had no interest in trying to make friends either. It had been a long ass week. You considered not coming to this party tonight...until you were told he'd be here. You knew that coming to a party because someone else was there was iffy. You assumed that you wouldn't be talking to Abe at all. You were okay with that. He wasn't with anyone tonight like he normally was. Abe has been bringing small dates with him the past few parties. They always abandon him. That's what hurts you most. It never fails. They don't even seem remotely interested in him in the first place. It's infuriating. Just seeing him disappointed hurts. You enjoy his company, which is one of the reasons you're so glad he's just playing poker tonight. There are no clingy dates to get in the way and no sadness to ruin the moment.

The two of you sat in silence for a bit, until Abe spoke up.

"Why?"

"What?"

"Why were you watching us play poker for so long? I mean yeah it can be entertaining sometimes, but it has been a good two hours. Most people would have walked off by now."

You sighed, "It's too loud in the lobby tonight for me. I can't stand it tonight. This week has been too much."

"Oh," Abe said softly, "Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No, not really. It's all kinda stupid anyway."

Abe narrowed his eyes at you but said nothing. The crowd started flowing into the room. Before you had time to think, Abe lightly grabbed your free wrist and lead you to an empty sitting room. You looked at him with furrowed brows.

"It should be quiet in here" Abe stated as he sat down. He lightly tugged on your shoulder, indicating you should sit down. You set your now empty wine glass down on the coffee table in front of you and sat down.

"It's odd that a good portion of the furniture in this house is red suede." You mentioned

Abe chuckled and turned toward you, "How are you the smartest person in every one of the parties?"

"W-What?"

Abe rubbed the back of his neck, "Sorry. You just...are...easier to talk to...most nights...even when you're a bit tipsy."

You chewed at your bottom lip and looked down. The silence in the room was defending. The tension in the room was suffocating.

"Thank you? I think?" You said finally.

Abe quickly responded, "Sorry I made it super awkward. I mean you don't just say stupid shit all the time. I'm not saying Mark or Colonel do either but they can be too much most nights. I mean-"

You cut him off with a laugh, "God Abe you're a dork."

Abe laughed with you. This is the most relaxed you've seen him in a long time. It was nourishing; refreshing. You felt your stomach start to do flips.

"No, no, no. I'm not the dork here. You're the one that knows what material Mark's furniture is" Abe said in between chuckles.

"It's suede? How do you not know that?"

"No, I do know that-"

"Are you accusing me of being ignorant, Abe?" You smirked

Abe hastily answered, "NO! I mean, no. I didn't. I was just saying-"

"You're a cute dork." You said. When you realized what you said your eyes widened. Abe stared in disbelief for a moment.

"You mean that?" He asked

"Y-Yeah"

"That's cute," He said confidently, "It seems to me like little you has a crush on me"

(Have is the correct term above but I'm putting has for flow. English is stupid)

"Oh my god, Abe shut up" You covered your face as he grinned at you toothily. You couldn't bear to lift your head out of your hands. Abe cupped your cheek and lifted your head to face him.

"I like you too, idiot." He said. You quickly crashed into him, enveloping him in a tight hug. You felt his arms wrap around you. Looking up, you put a hand on his prickly cheek. The feel of his stubble was much more pleasing than you originally imagined. You wouldn't admit you imagined how his stubble felt, but you did.

The two of you laid on the couch like that for a long time. You also didn't talk for a long time. By the end of the night, you two very comfortable in each other's arms. It hurt when you had to go home.

"Hey," Abe said outside the mansion, "If you're free next Friday, instead of coming here, I was thinking we could go on an actual date?"

"I'd love that Abe." You beamed at him.

"Thank god," He heaved out as if he was holding his breath, "I'll see you next week?"

"Absolutely, you cute dork" You said as you walked away-

"HEY"
