Derek was waiting for his wife to wake up. He had used this moment to give her the tube feeding she'd need later on but he knew she always hated sitting with the others while the liquid was being pumped into her body so he had made sure she already had gotten in
"Mer?" He then tried to wake her
"Addie.. Mark.." She whispered weakly
"Yeah. We should leave soon, Mer. Is that okay?" He asked her
"Kay" She breathed
"You should get up then" Derek chuckled
"Too tired" She groaned
"I know you are but let's get going" Derek scooped her up and carried her to their car
Halfway the ride Meredith started to really wake up despite the pain and exhaustion she felt and squeezed Derek's hand softly
"I can't believe they're expecting a baby" Meredith smiled softly from her spot, too tired to look up more
"They'll do such a great job" Derek nodded
"I'm so proud of them" Meredith yawned as Derek parked his car in front of Addison and Mark's house
"Me too, let's get out and check on them. I wanna know if he'll start mommy tracking already" Derek chuckled
"Aww" Meredith winced as her husband helped her out of the car
"What hurts?" Derek helped her down again and checked her out
"It's okay. Just my body aches a bit" Meredith sighed
"Let's go in, you can sit down" Derek kissed her head and helped her out again. He had to support her as they walked inside
"Mom!" Emm ran towards them
"Hi sweetie, is everyone outside?" Meredith asked as she linked hands with Emma
"Yes" Emma nodded and held her mother's hand. She walked her to the garden where everyone was sitting down
"Oh good, you're here" Addison smiled and quickly gestured that Meredith could sit next to her
"Thanks" Meredith breathed as she took a seat and felt pain ripping through her body. She felt so stiff but she really didn't wanna complain, she weakly rubbed her arms in a try to rub away the aching feeling
"Are you doing okay, honey?" Christopher quietly asked as he sat next to her and noticed the pained expression in her face
"Of course" Meredith lied "Glad to be with my family" She breathed
"Don't hesitate to take some time to rest" Christopher grabbed her hand but she winced "Meredith, are you in pain?" He sternly asked but tried to not worry the others
"Just sore" She quietly replied as she saw her husband looking over "I'm okay, dad" She tried to assure him and herself
...
The whole afternoon she had pushed through and now they were on their way home. Christopher and Carolyn would drop off the girls a bit later as Derek insisted Meredith needed to rest at home
There seemed to be a lot of traffic. Right before them there was an accident, they watched as another car slammed into the car in front of them
"Derek!" Meredith yelled and he was able to push the break on time. She ubuckled herself and got out, Derek following
"Meredith, wait in the car!" He told her as he noticed she was limping slightly
"No, I'm still a doctor!" She started to fight him as they reached her car
"Sir, are you okay?" Derek asked
"My head-" the man struggled to say
"Let me take a look" Meredith said as she was able to climb in the car that was completely destroyed and she was glad to be so petite now
"Meredith-" Derek tried to stop her, scared she would hurt herself
"His right pupil is blown" She told Derek and then the firemen arrived to they could cut him out
"Meredith please, come back" Derek almost begged her but she wasn't really listening to him
"You need to cut him out immediately" Meredith weakly said as she climbed out of the wreck
"We'll do everything we can" The firemen promised and started working
"We should go home, Mer" Derek held her in his arms
"No" She weakly fought him
"Yes" He scooped her up and carried her back to their own car and rushed her home
Derek carried her inside and immediately carried her towards their bedroom where he placed her down and tucked her in, immediately grabbing a few IV bags to hydrate her and with antibiotics. He started cleaning her wounds as she was hooked up to the meds when he heard his phone ring
"Derek! We tried to call you, we thought something had happened!" Carolyn gasped as he finally picked up
"A car crashed in front of us and Mer got out to help while I asked her not to- She's exhausted and weak-" Derek was explaining
"Is she okay?" Carolyn frowned "Do we need to come over right now?"
"I don't know, mom" Derek started sobbing "I hate to see her like this, I hate to say she shouldn't help someone because I'm afraid these things would happen. She's still a doctor and I-" He struggled to say
"We're coming over now. The girls can stay here a bit longer" Carolyn said while Derek heard Mark and Christopher talking in the background
...
Carolyn was washing Meredith's face with a washcloth while Meredith was semi awake
"Tired" She muttered
"I know honey, sleep" Carolyn kissed her daughter's forehead
"Can't" She whimpered "Girls"
"Your girls are still with Addie and Mark. They're okay" Carolyn assured her
"Der?" She kept going
"He's okay, Mer. He's just changing his clothes because they were dirty from earlier" Carolyn explained "You really need to rest, Mer"
"I'm not sick" Meredith sort of snapped
"I know, honey" Carolyn sighed and rubbed Meredith's arm. She knew how badly her daughter loved to be independent and hated to be taken care off
"So much pain" Meredith cried out
"What hurts, Meredith?" Carolyn asked concerned
"Body aches" She got quiet
"Just sleep, Meredith" Carolyn brushed her fingers through Meredith's hair in a try to calm her down
"You should listen to mom, I'm staying with you" Derek walked in and laid down next to her, wrapping her in his arms. It didn't take long before she was asleep
"She's weak, Derek" Carolyn worried, Meredith really wasn't in good shape
