Carolyn and Addison were prepping the food while Derek and Christopher were getting everything ready for the barbecue they had planned

"Hi mom" Meredith slowly walked, or shuffled, into the room

"Hi dear, how have you been feeling?" Carolyn stood up to guide Meredith to the living room

"Mom, I'm okay. Can I help you?" Meredith asked

"I should cut the vegetables but besides that everything is ready. The men are getting the grill ready" Carolyn explained

"I'll help you with the vegetables." Meredith said sternly

"Let's go then" Carolyn smiled as Meredith's energy was up today

...

Everyone was sitting outside. Meredith was asleep in Derek's lap while Addison and Mark were quietly talking to each other. This time they met at Mark and Addison's house as they wanted to show Evie's new bedroom

"I think we should head back" Derek nodded his head. "The girls are coming over tomorrow.." He sighed

"She was quite energetic today" Addison smiled as she helped Derek get up

"She was" Derek smiled. "I hope this means something good" Derek nodded his head

"We're coming with you and Mer" Carolyn stood up as well

"Are you sure?" Derek asked his parents

"I'm exhausted" Christopher laughed and they all said their goodbyes

...

Christopher was behind Derek but traffic was awful. In the meantime Meredith was feeling the aftermath of the busy day

"It hurts" She groaned in her husband's arms

"Mom and dad are behind us, want me to stop?" Derek asks her

"No.. Just wanna go home" Meredith groans again

"Shh, it's okay." Derek kissed her cheek

"When am I up for new scans?" Meredith weakly asked

"Tomorrow, right before your other round of chemo." Derek kissed her hand and got upset as they haven't moved in over ten minutes

They sat in silence. It wasn't uncomfortable but he knew his wife was in pain and he absolutely hates it

"Ava texted me earlier, she said we should plan your birthday party soon." Derek tried to lighten the mood

"Don't want one.." Meredith groaned

"Why? We wanna celebrate it with the family."

"Because there's not much to celebrate, Derek. My body is a wreck. I can't eat, I can barely walk.." Meredith sighed

"But who cares about that, Mer. We're so happy you're with us. The girls still have their mom. Mom and dad still have their daughter and I still have my wife." Derek squeezed her hand

"And I have pain?" Meredith rolled her eyes

"I'm sorry.. I just- You still have us.." Derek looked her in the eyes, both adults tearing up

"I know.." Meredith looked away

"Mer." Derek reached out for her hands

"I'm sorry. I'm just so tired after being sick for so long.." Meredith whimpered

"I know. Let's hope we get home soon so we can rest a little. I just want to have my wife in my arms"

...

It took about an hour for them to get home. When Derek opened his wife's door he noticed how bad she was doing.

"Of sweetheart.." Carolyn sighed as she saw Meredith

"I'm bringing her inside, night mom. Night dad." Derek said and carried Meredith inside, placing her down in the bed and hooking her up with fluids. He quickly changed her into something warm and joined her

"Hmm.." Meredith started stirring

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Derek adjusted her in his arms

"Pain.." Meredith whimpered

"I adjusted some morphine. I hope it will work soon." Derek placed a soft kiss on her forehead

"At least I'm in your arms."

"Always." Derek promised her and hugged her tight

I know, short chapter im sorry! But I just finished another exam, fcked it up I think, and I have a bunch more to go but I've been really stuck and stuff so sorry again
