━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Grosvenor Square, 1813

Dearest reader,
the time has come to place our bets for the upcoming social season. Consider the household of the Baron Featherington. Three misses foisted upon the marriage market like sorrowful sows by their tasteless tactless mama.

Eleanor Davis-Williams strolled through the hallways, the resonant click of her heels echoing on the polished wooden floors, her vigilant gaze sweeping every nook and cranny of the house.

"One more round!" the spirited blonde called from the grass, rising and brushing off her knees.

"Liyah, Mother will have my hide if she catches you unprepared for your presentation to Her Majesty the Queen," admonished Alex, lowering his wooden sword while his sister rolled her eyes.

"Oh, Alex, just a few more strikes—" Their mother's voice interrupted as she appeared in the backyard, hands on hips.

"Aaliyah Marie Williams, what on earth are you doing? Haven't I instructed you to hasten, lest we be tardy? Inside, this instant, to bathe!" With a resigned sigh, the twenty-four-year-old complied, her mother's reproachful words echoing in her ears.

One family the ton has been looking forward to is the household of the Earl of Williams and their only daughter, Aaliyah Marie Williams. It is her first time to debut in society after delaying for so long. Surely, suitors are on standby.

"Pull it a little tighter," Eleanor commanded as the maid adjusted the corset.

"Are you attempting to suffocate me, Mother? If that's the case, I assure you, I'll find a more dignified demise than squeezing into this absurd contraption." The Countess of Williams shot a withering glare at her daughter, dismissing her protest as she observed the maid delicately dressing her daughter in white.

"I understand it's uncomfortable, my dear, but it's necessary for today," the elder woman sighed, her brow creasing with concern as she regarded her daughter, who clearly loathed every moment. Once the young girl was properly attired, the Williams family hastened into their carriages bound for the palace.

"Do you suppose Fran and Eloise will be in attendance?" Aaliyah inquired of her brother, Henry, who sat nearby with a book in hand.

"Naturally, they'll be there. The entire ton will be present. I fail to comprehend the significance of these events when there are far more pressing issues to address," the blonde girl nodded, concurring with her brother as their mother cast a disapproving gaze upon them both.
