"RRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNN
"Ugh, stupid alarm clock, stop ringing already!" Jang Wooyoung groaned, before slamming the alarm clock on the floor. It hit the floor with a resounding crash, and the many empty beer cans on the floor toppled due to the impact. Wooyoung slowly opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling, before realizing what today was.
"Damn it, I'm late for the wedding!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few minutes later, Wooyoung rushed out of his house with a smart black tuxedo on, and a bright red tie. He managed to get a cab right away and heaved a sigh of relief. He relaxed in his seat, pulling his tie a little to breathe, thinking that he would definitely reach on time. To his horror, as the taxi turned the corner at the end of the street, it stopped abruptly and Wooyoung groaned when he saw the many cars that blocked the way.
"Oh damn. Excuse me, but is there any way that you could hurry up?" Wooyoung desperately asked the taxi driver, who was slightly balding and had eyes that were so small that they looked like lines instead, and a tiny beard.
"I'm sorry there's nothing I can do, there's a traffic jam ahead because of the marathon that is happening ahead~ And by the way I don't really know all the shortcuts in the city so there's nothing I can do~!" replied the taxi driver almost too cheerfully.
"Aish!" Wooyoung got annoyed at the cheerful tone of the taxi driver and laid back in his seat, thinking of what to do next.
"Forget it, take this money. I'm getting off! GOODBYE!" Wooyoung put a 10000 won note next to the driver, slammed the door and ran down the street quickly.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Why isn't Wooyoung here yet?! It's such an important day!" Taecyeon whined.
"I don't know, I've been calling him but to no avail. He's not picking up!!!" Junho replied, irritated. "Oh he finally picked up! WOOYOUNG WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"Hello good morning I'm on my way!" Wooyoung yelled breathlessly and he continued to run to his destination. He didn't realize at first but when he looked to his right, the person who was leading the marathon was running at the same speed as him, "IN WORLD RECORD TIME!"
"YAH JANG WOOYOUNG YOU BETTER NOT BE LATE FOR THIS IMPORTANT DAY!" yelled Taecyeon from the side.
"Alright I'll be there soon! That's it, bye!" Wooyoung had no more breath to talk anymore and continued running at the same speed. The marathoner was shocked to see that someone could run as fast as him and tried to pick up his speed so as to not lose to him. Wooyoung, being competitive, did not want to lose either, and pushed himself to run. He and the marathoner seemed to be competing and everyone who was witnessing this was cheering them on suddenly.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wooyoung arrived earlier than he expected and to his surprise, he was still 10 minutes early. He now stood in front of Milicient Church, the place where his best friend would be getting married. At the thought of this, his heart started aching once more. He felt the pain pierce through his body like a knife. But he was used to it already. After taking a deep breath to brace himself, he walked into the hall. He had thought of not coming today, because he didn't know if he could take the pain of seeing his best friend and crush for so long that he can't even remember, getting married to someone else other than him. Memories he had with her flashed by as he recalled. One in particular pained him the most.
-Flashback begins-
"Youngie, why did you bring me here?" Two soft brown eyes looked at him curiously. The weather was great and the sun was shining on them. They were at a green meadow, with many beautiful flowers and trees.
"Erm..." 7-year-old Wooyoung hesitated before pulling out a toy ring. Her eyes widened when she saw it, and she thought it was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. Even her umma's big shiny diamond ring was nothing compared to this.
Wooyoung continued, suddenly gaining much confidence, "Taetae, we'll get married in the future, ne? I only want you as my bride. " Wooyoung stared sincerely at Taeyeon, as a wide smile spread across her face.
"Okay! I also want Youngie as my groom next time! Pinky promise??" 7-year-old Taeyeon tilted her head cutely to the side, waiting for Wooyoung to answer her.
"Promise!" Wooyoung nodded his head vigourously. He put the ring on Taeyeon's finger, and it fitted her perfectly, like it was made for her and only her. The two of them smiled shyly at each other and went off hand in hand to the nearby playground.
-Flashback end-
"Sorry Taetae, I failed to fulfill my promise," Wooyoung mumbled to himself, blinking back the tears that were now brimming in his eyes.
"Hey Woo, you're finally here! I thought you might be late!" A voice greeted Wooyoung cheerfully. The owner of that voice was in a pale pink dress and, as usual, looked like an angel sent from heaven. She definitely lived up to her reputation of being the school beauty in high school and in college. She stopped abruptly when she saw Wooyoung's expression.
"Hey Woo, you okay? You look kind of sick," Wooyoung didn't seem to hear her and continued to be in a daze.
"JANG WOOYOUNG!" Im Yoona shouted into Wooyoung's ear and waved her hands frantically in front of Wooyoung's face.
"Huh what?! I'm not crying!"
"Well, I never said you were. You said it yourself," Yoona looked him in confusion. "Well, I've got to go to Taengoo now, see you later!" Yoona skipped away from Wooyoung, and accidentally bumped into a tall, nerdy guy in a black tuxedo.
"Hey Yoona, you look gorgeous today as usual!" the guy praised her with a smile.
"Oh hey oppa! Hehe thanks! You don't look bad yourself too~ Well, I've got to get to Taengoo soon, so bye!" Yoona skipped away cheerfully, leaving Ok Taecyeon staring at her backview.
Wooyoung, upon seeing this scene, gave a little smirk and approached Taecyeon. He greeted one of his closest friends with a slap on his back.
"OUCH! That really hurts!" Taecyeon's cry of pain echoed through the hall and attracted attention from almost everyone bustling about in the hall. Both Wooyoung and Taecyeon seemed to notice and put on an apologetic expression.
"Oops I'm sorry. Guess I didn't know my strength," Wooyoung put on a grin. Taecyeon had to resist the urge to punch the guy. "So, you haven't found a way to confess to Yoona yet?"
Taecyeon looked at Wooyoung in disbelief, "Are you kidding me? I have always been so open about me liking her! Did you like, forget everything that happened in high school and college?!"
Wooyoung thought back and yes, Taecyeon was right. All five of them, Yoona, Taecyeon, Junho, Taeyeon and himself had met each other in high school, and had stuck together for so many years now. Taeyeon and Wooyoung, however, had met in primary school, and so they knew each other better. Taecyeon had always liked Yoona ever since they met in high school, but Yoona, being the school beauty, had rejected him many times because Taecyeon was not her ideal guy type. He always wore his thick black nerdy spectacles and wore bright primary coloured clothes, which made him look like a Christmas tree most of the time. In short, his fashion sense sucks. He and Yoona are practically worlds apart in terms of style. Furthermore, Yoona had so many suitors to choose from, and the chances of her choosing Taecyeon as her boyfriend were as small as a peanut.
"Hehehe well, she didn't accept you. So it's not counted!" Wooyoung smirked, while Taecyeon gave a death glare. "Okay okay, I'll stop now. Hehe, don't be angry~!"
"TSK! Well, what about you and Taeyeon? What happened? I always thought you two liked each other!" Taecyeon said, as if he wanted to take revenge. At this, Wooyoung just smiled sadly and looked down.
"I guess that's not true. I think we're just not meant to be."
