"Thank you for stepping in for (Y/N)." Cale turned back to Choi Han. His hand was resting on the small of your back leading you towards the inn. The noble simply hummed and nodded.
"It's only right to do so—"
"But aren't you angry?" Choi Han cut off Cale. The redhead just frowned.
"About what? The fact that he looked down on me? About how he almost killed a man and brushed him aside? Or... Was it because of the way he treated (Y/N)?" Now you turned back as well. Cale glanced at you before continuing to speak.
" 'Venion, why is the old man apologizing to you.' 'Do not brazenly harass (Y/N) in front of me.' were those the thing you expected me to say?" Choi Han frowned but didn't say anything.
"I am not someone who can say such a thing. Nor do I want to. I'm not angry, to begin with." That seemed to upset Choi Han even more. Who wouldn't? The swordsman was trusting your safety to Cale. if couldn't protect you in such a circumstance— If Cale didn't care at all—
"So you were fine with what that bastard did to (Y/N)?" A look of bloodlust started to grow on Choi han's face. Cale flinched as he wracked his brain for a response. He was afraid to get beaten by the protagonist.
Was Cale angry? No, not at all. Rather, the young noble was worried for you. You were his favorite Main Character. He knew full well that you can handle a Minor Villain like Venion. But...
You were not the same.
It was a fact even Cale would forget at times. You may look and act like the person he admired in the novel. But you were still at your beginning. You missed the chance to grow. Unlike Kim Rok Soo who has lived a long life with years of experience, you were still the young 20-year-old shut-in that selfishly wanted to survive. A selfish protagonist that would rather survive and watch the world burn from a safe distance.
"You need to think clearly Choi Han." Cale looked down at you. Your eyes were wide with a mix of fear yet held a firmness in them. Cale knew those eyes well. The eyes that selfishly chose to make everything his problem.
"None of us are in a position to act. I did not like what that noble was doing to me either. But..." You gently place your hand on Cale's arm. You held a light grip as the firmness in your eyes become determinate.
"The eyes of the country are watching. What would happen to us, or anyone under the Henituse's care if we were to act so brazenly? Acting now would be selfish."
The swordsman seemed to calm down. Of all things, Choi Han was still kind at heart. He cared deeply for people. Cale almost wanted to smile. You weren't the same as the novel version of you, this version of you was more vicious and excitable. But you had the same heart and mind. Both versions of you selfishly loved other people.
"Let's be smart Choi Han. We can always smack them in the back later." At your words, Cale couldn't help but smile. You were completely right. Cale was always good at repaying others.
"I couldn't agree more. Soon that bastard will be kicked out of his own house. There is no doubt about that"
Choi Han was about to enter Cale's room but stopped when he heard your voice.
"Do I really have to take it off? Can't we just do it while I have it on?" you said.
Huh? Take what off? Do it? Choi Han's eyes shook as he leaned closer to the door. He didn't want to interrupt just yet.
"I have my reasons. We already agreed on those rules, didn't we? You were to obey me without question. Do you intend to break a rule? You know what happens if you do it, right?"
