The great hall fell into silence as Draco waved his hand about wildly, the piece of paper fluttering about unforgivingly.
"What is it Draco? Did mummy forget to pack your sweets and mail them again?"
The entire hall laughs.
"Or was it your robes this time?"
Even more laughter, Narcissa blushes profusely and looks down.
Draco seems unfazed by the taunts thrown at him.
"Perhaps this was of usual occurrence."
He shakes his head stubbornly, ignoring Carina's snide remark and set the piece of paper on the table. Theo leans back into his armchair. The remnants of a smile on his face, "Read it out loud Blaise."
Blaise placed his book onto the table and grabbed the piece of parchment.
Addressed to: Carina Black, Draco Malfoy, Cassiopia Lestrange
Dear children,
due to some unavoidable work at the ministry, your parents would like it if you had stayed back in school for Christmas. The choice is yours, but I would suggest for you to stay back and have a merry Christmas at Hogwarts.Narcissa Malfoy
"Are you purebloods always so formal?"
"Always."
"This is OUTRAGEOUS!"
"Why though?"
"Bloody terrific!"
"Why?"
"Do they always have to be so damn ambiguous?"
"WHY?"
"These children sure are chaotic."
"Of course they are! training doesn't start until the end of the first term!" Exclaimed Theodore.
"Training?" a group of half-blood and muggle-born students chime in unpracticed synchrony.
"Yes training!" exclaims Cygnus, wanting to carry on watching.
"When he means training, he means dance practice and etiquette. How to behave yourself during official parties, family dinners and when you're at school. Whom to socialise with and whom not to socialise with. Who are the leading pure-blood families and blah blah blah.", explains Sirius with a quick smile.
"Well for one I certainly am going back! Celeste made me promise. She threatened to have my head if she didn't."
"I love their relationship!"
"I'm not missing the Christmas Ball for the world!"
"If all of you are going back...then what am I supposed to do here? All on my own that too?"
This was Draco.
"Cheer up cousin! I'm sure Crabbe and Goyle will keep you lovely company!" snickers Carina as the rest of the children laugh.
Draco pulls a face and throws a pillow at a loudly laughing Cassiopeia who falls to the floor.
"Hey!"
"Alright, alright", says Blaise, waving his arms around as though attempting to cool the situation down. "That's quite enough. It's solved, isn't it? None of you are going to listen to Narcissa and all of you are going to go back home for Christmas. Did I get that right?"
He is rewarded with a series of nods.
"Good, now get back to homework."
"There is always that one study freak in the group."
All marauder's eyes turn to an unsurprisingly quiet Remus who shrugs and rolls his eyes.
"Oof"
"We really must stop bumping into each other like this.", comes Carina's amused smile.
"We probably shouldn't.", admits Harry, adjusting his crooked glasses as he holds onto his transfiguration homework...and something else but it was none of Carina's business. So unlike Cass, she stayed out of it.
"Struggling with homework?"
"Yeah, but Hermione is helping so it's so much easier."
"Ah yes, Granger. The mud-muggle born. Right."
"Right."
"Well..."
"I'll see you later then?" offers Harry.
"Sure!"
"See you then."
"Bye"
As she walks away, Carina shudders at the atmosphere around their conversation. "Shouldn't be this awkward," she mutters as she walks into the Slytherin common room."
"Cute"
"NO"
